Tester requires different skills and mindset. Good developer/Designer/BA can't become a good tester.
Tester need spend most of the time trying to "break" the software. You need excellent aptitude skills coupled with knowledge of testing methodologies and tools…
Tester also learn additional methods experimentation, creativity, problem solving, planning, patience, ability to recognize important information.
If you are serious about testing career, you could go for certifications like ISTQB which will enhance your value in the job market.
Reality:
What you learn from university is just a starting point for pursuit a career in IT.
Need to deeply basic programming and some know about languages as: Java, Ruby, Python,,…
When you have the knowledge of coding as automation testing, performance testing, security testing, mobile testing as necessary and must understand the strengths, weaknesses and the limitations of the technology shortcomings are applied to software development.
You can choose right tool/solutions for apply testing.
Reality:
Testing is based on requirements and only find 70% bugs, exploratory testing, ad-hoc testing which requires a lot of analysis and innovative thoughts, that the reason to need innovation, which help tester find the rest.
Need analysis and evaluation to arrange reasonable priority for each job, each area must test the product is important as analysts assess the severity of the issue, bug, error.
