Industry Overview • In 2017, India ranked as the 3rd largest crude steel producer in the world, leaving behind United States • During FY17, 8.24 MT of steel was exported from India • In FY17 , crude steel production in India was 95.6 MT, with the total crude steel production growing at a CAGR of 4.90 per cent over the last 5 years and reached 89.79 MT in FY16(In 2015, World Crude Steel production stood at 1,623 million tonnes, a decline of 2.8% vis-à-vis 2014, as estimated by World Steel Association (WSA). • The 12th Five Year Plan of the Government of India mentions a need for Rs. 56.3 trillion (about $ 1 trillion) for development of infrastructure.(2012-2017) • The steel sector contribute over 2 per cent to the GDP of the nation and provides 20 lakhs jobs in the country.

Shri Gadkari launches INAM-Pro + : The Web Platform for Sale and Purchase of Construction Material and Service • INAM-Pro+ is an upgraded version of INAM-Pro, the web portal designed by National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL) and launched by the Ministry two years back as a common platform to bring cement buyers and sellers together. • The companies registered on INAM-Pro have a committed supply of 27 million metric tons of cement at a price restricted by predefined ceiling values. • More than 700 construction companies have used INAM-Pro during the last two years

Analysis • It very convenient for the prospective buyers to procure cement at reasonable rates in a transparent manner • This reduced the time and effort in preparation of proposals and bid submissions • Matching demand with supply, cutting down delays by timely supply of material and providing for online payments , mitigating cost overruns due to price hedging (investment to reduce the risk of adverse price movements) through ceiling price mechanism which allows maximum increment of 10% Year on Year basis and promoting transparency in the market due to publicly visible Prices
