2. Hilt Tatum IV got his start in international
business while still an undergraduate at the
University of Montana. There, he and
several classmates formed a tech company
that employed 600 people worldwide
before it was sold. He currently serves as
president of iPoint Capital Partners, a
boutique investment firm he and his
colleagues formed in Panama in 2006.
When not pursuing professional objectives,
Hilt Tatum IV enjoys the fishing opportunities
available in Panama.
3. Because its neighbor Costa Rica is such a well-
known destination for fly anglers, Panama is
sometimes overlooked. However, it has
excellent saltwater fishing opportunities as well
as hundreds of freshwater rivers with
respectable populations of gamefish. Popular
targets for saltwater anglers are yellowfin tuna,
black marlin, roosterfish, Cubera snapper, and
Pacific sailfish. One of the intangible benefits of
angling in Panama is that it’s very easy to fish
both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans on the
same trip, or even in the same day.
4. Most lodges and guides that cater to fly
anglers do not supply tackle, so fishers
should being their own fly rods and other
gear. It is generally recommended that
they bring heavy tackle, as the fish they
will be landing are on the large side.
