2. Using watt-meters we have measured, that a TV onstand-by still useselectricitywith a power of 20 Watt. Thismeans, that in 50 hours (2 days) your TV uses 1 kWh of electricity. But that´snothing, so why all the fuzzaboutturningoff the TV???
3. 1 kWh in 2 daysmeansapproximately 180 kWh in 1 year. 180 kWh costsabout 30 €. Well, that´s not so bad!!!
4. To produce 1 kWh of electricity the power plant has to burn 100 g of coaloroil. So your 180 kWh of electricity is produced by burning 18 kg of coaloroil. Still doesn´t sound too bad!!!
5. Everytimeyouburn 1 kg of coaloroilyouproduceapproximately 2,5 kg of CO2, which is emitted to the atmosphere. So burningyour 18 kg of coaloroilemits 45 kg of CO2to the atmosphere. Gettingworse???
6. In Denmark thereareapproximately 2 million TV´son standby 24 hours per day 365 days per year. Thatmeans: 360 million kWh used. 60 million € spend. 36.000 tons of coaloroilburned. 90.000 tons of CO2emitted.
7. In the worldtherearemaybe 1 billion TV´sonstand-by all the time. Thismeans: 180 billion kWh used. 30 billion € spend. 18 million tons of coaloroilburned. 45 million tons of CO2emitted.
8. All this is used to make sure, thatyoucan sit in your sofa, and turnonyour TV withyourremotecontrol, instead of raisingyourass and using the switch on the TV. Does it sound bad now!!!!!
