Social Media And Identity
Introduction
Adolescence is a time where an individual's sense of identity starts to emerge, with an unlimited access to the internet adolescence are influenced by
the content they are exposed to which in turn affects them in establishing individual identity. Nearly every adolescent growing up in the United States
has access to the internet or some form of media and social media. In fact, a study showed that; 93% of adolescents reported belonging to a social
media site, 72% access the Internet with a phone, 49% accept friend requests from strangers, 42% send friend requests to strangers, and 55% report
meeting people from social media sites in person (Knowles, Lee, O'Riordan, & Lazebnik, 2014). The internet is a vast place and can offer adolescents
ample opportunities to experiment with their identities. Six hundred adolescents were given a questioner on internet habits, of the adolescents who
used the internet for chat or Instant Messaging, 50 percent indicated that they had engaged in internet–based identity experiments (Valkenburg,
Schouten, & Peter, 2005). Furthermore, media use can directly impact an adolescent's self–esteem, which in turn impacts them in establishing their
identity. Many are convinced that high self–esteem produces salutary outcomes and low self–esteem is at the root of personal and social problems and
that self–esteem is an outcome of the identity verification process (Stets & Burke, 2014). The central focus of this paper is connecting media

In the World, today social media controls everything. Social media includes blogs, social games, chat apps, and photo sharing apps. "around 60
percent of the population has at least one social account" (Gordon). The generation of millennials have more than one social media account and are
always on their phones checking those sites multiple times a day. In this essay, I will be giving more information about three different social sites, the
features, capabilities, how to use them, and privacy settings. Facebook was launched in February 2004. There are five founders of Facebook and they
are Mark Zuckerberg, Eduardo Saverin, Andrew McCollum, Dustin Moskovitz and Chris Hughes. Most people only know about Mark Zuckerberg and

There are three founders of Twitter and they are Jack Dorsey, Noah Glass and Evan Williams. Twitter is a social media platform where most of
their users can say and post anything they please in 140 words or less also known at characters. People can disagree or agree, retweet, love, and
comment on post. "Twitter focuses on speeding things up, often becoming a source in and of itself" (DeMers). Twitter is also where controversial
topics become popular and talked about. Facebook "Users are encouraged to enter their real personal information and connect to family and friends.
Because of this, many users feel they can't post certain content for risk of offending someone like Grandma. By contrast, Twitter allows a level of
anonymity; you can be yourself, but you're free to create an avatar as well" (DeMers). Twitter's monthly active users are nowhere near in comparison
to Facebook and Instagram. Twitter's monthly active users are at about a little over 300 million. Instagram's monthly active users are at about more
than 350 million. Facebook's monthly active users are at about a little more than 2 billion. Instagram was launched in October 2010. Instagram has two
founders and they are Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger. Instagram developers also had some part of the Facebook development which means that there
are similar connections between the two social media sites. Instagram is the most popular photo sharing social media site. Posting

Reflective Essay On Social Media
Social media is an outlet for people to talk about the latest "hits" and whatever is going on in their everyday lives. It can be a great tool, but taking
a breather from it helped me realize how much of my time was spent online. Social media has greatly influenced the world we live in and has brought
the world closer than ever before but it can leave us more estranged from our family and neighbors as well. I recommend that others should turn off
twitter, unfriend facebook, and put Snapchat on "silent" to experience what I did when I was offline. People experience the life that exists beyond their
screens and they will see what I mean. Depression. Insecurities. Jealousy. These three struggles defined the person I became by spending most of my
time on social media. Instagram portrayed my friends' "glam lives", their perfect lives, making me feel jealous. On Twitter, selfies were shared with
no sign of imperfection, leaving me insecure. Snapchat kept me in the loop of friend gatherings that I could not be a part of because I was
working, and this left me depressed. After facing these problems, I discovered how much time I was spending on it. My mom also noticed a change
in my mood and communication. I then came to realize this and took a break from any source of social media for a month. Everything changed. I
was free of insecurities, jealousy, and depression. Social media was taking control of my feelings. I started loving myself; the person that God created

Social Media And Sociology Essay
Social Media and Sociology Berlirce Chetgna In this modern age, the majority of society has adapted to social media and the newest technology to
fit around our lives. Technology provides tools that are imperative to the making and the use of other tools. It is a tool in itself. Technology is
changing rapidly; so rapidly, in fact, there can be cultural gaps between generations. The construction of social media has enabled access to innovative
phenomenon, broken barriers, changed our perspectives on ideas, and has even opened doors to new opportunities. Efficiency is a monumental
advantage that technology and social media has provided for many. Whether someone is on the other side of the world or a few feet away, the

Television, movies, songs, and social media are the cultured lenses in which we view the world. What we perceive through a screen can change
where we stand on certain topics; for example, gender messages and body images. Mass media not only reflects gender stereotypes but also plays a
role in changing them. Females used to be portrayed as less brave and more dependent. Now there are strong, independent female characters like
Katniss Everdeen from The Hunger Games and intelligent, brave female characters like Hermione Granger from Harry Potter. Like women's
changing positions in society, more aggressive and dominant females are being featured. Mass media molds new stereotypes but not all the ideas that
are communicated are positive. Mass media is effective in teaching us what we "should" look like. Women should be thin. Men should be muscular.
The skinny and muscular ideals portrayed in advertising encourage men and women to look a certain way. The depiction of the female ideal has
helped shaped society's perspectives about beauty. The media pushes you to "improve your body" by buying their products but soon the road to a
skinny and toned body leads to a self destructive path of self hatred. The powerful ideas that the media transmits through words, images, and movement
can have lasting impacts on the human brain, affecting how we think and

Social Media has changed the way we look at the world now–a–days. People have become obsessed with post or looking others post on Social media.
Ever since the smartphone has been released, new social media apps have become more relevant and very popular. Teens and young adults are the
reason why social media is very popular because now people can communicate with families from different countries or talk and make new friends
through social media. There are three types of Social Medias that affected communication. The first social media app that I will be talking about, that
has effected people lives and the way people communicate now–a–days, is Snapchat. Snapchat is an app that allows people to communicate with others
through pictures and videos. Snapchat has become a very popular app that has changed the way teens and adults communicate with others. Elyse
Betters explains that "Snapchat is a fun messaging app. You can capture a photo or brief video with it, then add a caption or doodle or filter/lens over
top, and send the finished creation (called a snap) to a friend." (Pocket–Lint). People can communicate with anyone around the world through pictures
and videos. The way Snapchat has effected people in a good way is that you can stay connected with the world. Snapchat provided its users with news,
gossip, and entertainment through the main page of Snapchat. Snapchat has different types of stories that businesses or news networks post on
snapchat so that the users are

The Internet And Social Media Essay
We live in an age of connection where a person's access to the internet is limited only by whether they have an internet ready device. The internet has
allowed users to freely and effortlessly communicate with each other across the globe. This has opened up new and exciting prospects including
forming friends aboard, creating a personal blog and competing in online games with people from other countries. It is estimated that around 2.95
billion people around the world use social media web–sites. In the United States (US) alone 78% of the US population have an active social media
account (Social media statistics, 2016).
The interconnectedness that the internet and social media provide brings fourth both the opportunity to communicate and abuse communication. The
rate at which social media is expanding into everyday life meant that it is now a necessity to address the potential risks that social media inherently
carry.
Children and the elderly are of particular concern because of their inexperience and lack of knowledge of how the internet can affect their lives.
Parents are concerned about whether their children will come in contact with explicitly online material and child predators. Regulatory bodies are now
trying to devise strategies to minimize the risks of high risk groups.
The purpose of this report is to investigate, identify and offer potential solutions to social media risks to enable regulatory bodies, high risk groups and
parents to be informed and take

allowed several new features that MySpace did not, for example: games like FarmVille, "poking" and more. As a result of social media, people
have become more connected with each other, but consequently less connected with the real world. If people are less connected with the real
world, then what is so beneficial about social media? Overall, social media can be an enjoyable and valuable tool, which allows you to catch up
with a childhood friend, endorse their business, and acquire news faster. When you become an adult and graduate from high school or college,
people like to reminisce about the glory days. Thanks to social networks like Facebook and Classmates.com, you can connect with your childhood

people from Facebook to come instead of collecting new contact information. In addition, companies who use a social network can promote their
business and attract more consumers to sell the product. Big business like Wal–Mart and Target can use the social networks to tell consumers what is

Social networking has become a major part of society. Many people wake up each day and check social media websites specifically throughout
Twitter and Facebook first thing in the morning instead of reaching for a newspaper. Since people are spending such a large amount of time
surfing social networks, it is important to point out some of the positive and negative effects that social networking can have on a society. The
positive effects of social networking sites are allow people to create new relationships and reconnect with friends and family. Increased
communication, even online, strengthens relationships. And the other is social networking sites make people share everything that they want and
bring people with common interests together, offer exposure to new ideas from around the world, and lower inhibitions to overcome social
anxiety. Social media has changed the way people think and how they communicate. It's incredible to see how social media has become such a big
part of our daily lives. Just to think social media as we know it was birthed less than ten years ago in August 2003 with MySpace and has become
such an integral part of our daily lives. Synonymous with checking our email we go to our Facebook for not only our daily gossip, but for up to date

of the human life when it comes to interacting and progressing our society. Ever since the beginning of as much as we can remember, we've
communicated in many forms such as body language, sign language and written language. Nowadays, we've taken socializing to a whole new level.

simple message for everyone to see at once. They can let everyone know where they are, what they're doing and how they're feeling, and it only
takes a few seconds. The most genuine complication of social media is addiction. A reporter on Salem health characterized that text messaging is no
longer the biggest teenage obsession, and enormous phone bills from lengthy phone calls are no longer the biggest doubts for parents. These teenage
addictions still remain, but in our generation and in analogy to the Facebook mania, it's quite insignificant. Facebook addiction is advised to be a
disorder driven by a craving. Not being able to access Facebook creates anxiety among fanatics. It is one of the most prominent social networking sites
and has over one billion users without exception. People detach themselves from family and friends. Further symptoms of Facebook addiction have
been related with needy sleep patterns. Researchers have also attempted to evaluate certain personality traits to the obsession. Being in touch with
friends and family might clarify the logic why people are unreasonably obsessed. Some people evolve into becoming isolated after using social media.

Essay on Advertising Through Social Media
In today's business world, social media is being discussed on a daily basis. This phenomenon has taken over the marketing and advertising industries
and has changed the way they handle their efforts to attract customers. There is a big misunderstanding that social media are only popular networking
sites such as Facebook and Twitter, but as defined by the Merriam–Webster dictionary, social media are "forms of electronic communication (as Web
sites for social networking and micro blogging) through which users create online communities to share information, ideas, personal messages, and

both a financial and reputation crisis that with the help of social media was able to regain some of their lost sales as well as their trust amongst its

Does Society Rely Too Much On Social Media
According to Shearer, "62 percent of US adults get news on social media" (Gottfried and Shearer 2016). More than half of the adults in the United
States receive their news from social media. With more than half of adults relying on social media, it begs the question does society rely too much
on social media? Throughout recent years, society has invested more time in their phones, which has made us less social. Social media has shaped
people to lack personal, human relationships. This leads to society becoming less social as a whole. Furthermore, there has been a big rise of fake

This because a problem when you have to put social media away and step out into the real world, with real relationships. If people are too busy
always acting tougher than they truly are, it is very hard for them to establish connections with people. Larry Rosen talks about the lack of empathy in
the virtual world. Rosen states, "while empathy can be dispensed in the virtual world, it is only one–sixth as effective in making the recipient feel
socially supported compared with empathy proffered in the real–world. A hug feels six times more supportive than an emoji" (Rosen). Empathy is a big
characteristic this world is lacking. Because everyone is so wrapped up in their phones, they don't know how to develop real world connections.
Overall, social media has influenced us to become less social. Many people believe that social media effected the 2016 Presidential Election. "A list
of fake news websites, on which just over half of articles appear to be false, received 159 million visits during the month of the election, or 0.64 per
US adult" During the election, many fake accounts were publishing false news stories that were hurting both candidates. The social media site,
Facebook, received many complaints of spreading fake news. Recently, President Donald Trump went to Twitter to make his view clear about
Facebook. As President Trump states, "Facebook was always anti–Trump. The Networks were always anti–Trump hence, Fake News" (Trump).

Digital Technology And Social Media Essay
More recently than in years past, digital technology and social media have grown to become a part of our everyday lives. The recent rise in those
who own smartphones allows this everyday use of digital technology and social networking to be easier than ever before. At any time and any place,
we have the ability to "socialize" with nearly anyone–even celebrities who have no idea most of us even exist. The continuous consumption of digital
media has altered once personal face–to–face communication to just that, digital. More and more people seem to be living in what Sonia Maasik and
Jack Solomon call "The Cloud". "The Cloud" is a seemingly alternate universe of which communication is altered from personal to digital. This
universe has led to debates over whether or not these online communities are real or whether social media is actually social. Various digital media
sources also encourage users to create individual identities, of which may or may not actually be real. It seems as though our reliance on digital
technology and social media have allowed the determination of certain aspects of our lives. Although social media allows us to connect with nearly
anyone at any time, Americans have taken advantage of its use, and their attention has been drawn away from real life interactions to digital ones. The
ramifications of such influences reflect the hidden insecurities of Americans and, ironically, emphasize our inclination to boast about ourselves by

People begin to connect more and more every day with the power of social media. Whether someone is thousands of miles away or a few blocks
from your house there is the possibility of finding them on social media. The question is, with all the connecting possible through social media
does it make us more distant to one another? With today's youth, social media begins to take over one's life and become their main source of
interacting. Social media is possibly one of the best and worst creations in the modern world but the cons definitely triumph over the pros. Social
media can be too informative at times. Suppose you were looking for a job and applied but the chances of ever being hired were ruined because of
what you post online. The fact that one can be chosen to be looked up and be reviewed on based on their beliefs. For example "someone applying to
become the new head of a science department. The applicant had attended conferences on creationism and posted notes online. Someone from the
steering committee saw them and voiced concerns and the applicant was turned down" (Fox 7). It creates a mindset of having to second guess what
you post due to the possibility of it affecting you in the future. Even if you do get hired getting passed the screening there is still the employer's
awareness to posts that you may have to take into consideration. There is a chance of being terminated if you were to post something the employee
may deem notable to consider letting you go. However

There have been cases where cyberbullying has led people, especially teens, to harm themselves. Cyberbullying could happen by using a computer,

the weaker or timid individuals. According to CBS News, "a high school teen was bullied into committing suicide live on Facebook because of cyber
bullying" (CBS News). This appears to be a growing issue that has become very common amongst teens and sometimes adults. "In 2011, approximately
9 percent of students ages 12–18 reported being cyber–bullied anywhere during the school year. Of those students, about 4 percent each reported that

Social Media And Identity

  • 1. Social Media And Identity Introduction Adolescence is a time where an individual's sense of identity starts to emerge, with an unlimited access to the internet adolescence are influenced by the content they are exposed to which in turn affects them in establishing individual identity. Nearly every adolescent growing up in the United States has access to the internet or some form of media and social media. In fact, a study showed that; 93% of adolescents reported belonging to a social media site, 72% access the Internet with a phone, 49% accept friend requests from strangers, 42% send friend requests to strangers, and 55% report meeting people from social media sites in person (Knowles, Lee, O'Riordan, & Lazebnik, 2014). The internet is a vast place and can offer adolescents ample opportunities to experiment with their identities. Six hundred adolescents were given a questioner on internet habits, of the adolescents who used the internet for chat or Instant Messaging, 50 percent indicated that they had engaged in internet–based identity experiments (Valkenburg, Schouten, & Peter, 2005). Furthermore, media use can directly impact an adolescent's self–esteem, which in turn impacts them in establishing their identity. Many are convinced that high self–esteem produces salutary outcomes and low self–esteem is at the root of personal and social problems and that self–esteem is an outcome of the identity verification process (Stets & Burke, 2014). The central focus of this paper is connecting media Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Essay On Social Media In the World, today social media controls everything. Social media includes blogs, social games, chat apps, and photo sharing apps. "around 60 percent of the population has at least one social account" (Gordon). The generation of millennials have more than one social media account and are always on their phones checking those sites multiple times a day. In this essay, I will be giving more information about three different social sites, the features, capabilities, how to use them, and privacy settings. Facebook was launched in February 2004. There are five founders of Facebook and they are Mark Zuckerberg, Eduardo Saverin, Andrew McCollum, Dustin Moskovitz and Chris Hughes. Most people only know about Mark Zuckerberg and do not know about...show more content... There are three founders of Twitter and they are Jack Dorsey, Noah Glass and Evan Williams. Twitter is a social media platform where most of their users can say and post anything they please in 140 words or less also known at characters. People can disagree or agree, retweet, love, and comment on post. "Twitter focuses on speeding things up, often becoming a source in and of itself" (DeMers). Twitter is also where controversial topics become popular and talked about. Facebook "Users are encouraged to enter their real personal information and connect to family and friends. Because of this, many users feel they can't post certain content for risk of offending someone like Grandma. By contrast, Twitter allows a level of anonymity; you can be yourself, but you're free to create an avatar as well" (DeMers). Twitter's monthly active users are nowhere near in comparison to Facebook and Instagram. Twitter's monthly active users are at about a little over 300 million. Instagram's monthly active users are at about more than 350 million. Facebook's monthly active users are at about a little more than 2 billion. Instagram was launched in October 2010. Instagram has two founders and they are Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger. Instagram developers also had some part of the Facebook development which means that there are similar connections between the two social media sites. Instagram is the most popular photo sharing social media site. Posting Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Reflective Essay On Social Media Social media is an outlet for people to talk about the latest "hits" and whatever is going on in their everyday lives. It can be a great tool, but taking a breather from it helped me realize how much of my time was spent online. Social media has greatly influenced the world we live in and has brought the world closer than ever before but it can leave us more estranged from our family and neighbors as well. I recommend that others should turn off twitter, unfriend facebook, and put Snapchat on "silent" to experience what I did when I was offline. People experience the life that exists beyond their screens and they will see what I mean. Depression. Insecurities. Jealousy. These three struggles defined the person I became by spending most of my time on social media. Instagram portrayed my friends' "glam lives", their perfect lives, making me feel jealous. On Twitter, selfies were shared with no sign of imperfection, leaving me insecure. Snapchat kept me in the loop of friend gatherings that I could not be a part of because I was working, and this left me depressed. After facing these problems, I discovered how much time I was spending on it. My mom also noticed a change in my mood and communication. I then came to realize this and took a break from any source of social media for a month. Everything changed. I was free of insecurities, jealousy, and depression. Social media was taking control of my feelings. I started loving myself; the person that God created me to be. I Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Social Media And Sociology Essay Social Media and Sociology Berlirce Chetgna In this modern age, the majority of society has adapted to social media and the newest technology to fit around our lives. Technology provides tools that are imperative to the making and the use of other tools. It is a tool in itself. Technology is changing rapidly; so rapidly, in fact, there can be cultural gaps between generations. The construction of social media has enabled access to innovative phenomenon, broken barriers, changed our perspectives on ideas, and has even opened doors to new opportunities. Efficiency is a monumental advantage that technology and social media has provided for many. Whether someone is on the other side of the world or a few feet away, the geographical happenstance...show more content... Television, movies, songs, and social media are the cultured lenses in which we view the world. What we perceive through a screen can change where we stand on certain topics; for example, gender messages and body images. Mass media not only reflects gender stereotypes but also plays a role in changing them. Females used to be portrayed as less brave and more dependent. Now there are strong, independent female characters like Katniss Everdeen from The Hunger Games and intelligent, brave female characters like Hermione Granger from Harry Potter. Like women's changing positions in society, more aggressive and dominant females are being featured. Mass media molds new stereotypes but not all the ideas that are communicated are positive. Mass media is effective in teaching us what we "should" look like. Women should be thin. Men should be muscular. The skinny and muscular ideals portrayed in advertising encourage men and women to look a certain way. The depiction of the female ideal has helped shaped society's perspectives about beauty. The media pushes you to "improve your body" by buying their products but soon the road to a skinny and toned body leads to a self destructive path of self hatred. The powerful ideas that the media transmits through words, images, and movement can have lasting impacts on the human brain, affecting how we think and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Informative Essay On Social Media Social Media has changed the way we look at the world now–a–days. People have become obsessed with post or looking others post on Social media. Ever since the smartphone has been released, new social media apps have become more relevant and very popular. Teens and young adults are the reason why social media is very popular because now people can communicate with families from different countries or talk and make new friends through social media. There are three types of Social Medias that affected communication. The first social media app that I will be talking about, that has effected people lives and the way people communicate now–a–days, is Snapchat. Snapchat is an app that allows people to communicate with others through pictures and videos. Snapchat has become a very popular app that has changed the way teens and adults communicate with others. Elyse Betters explains that "Snapchat is a fun messaging app. You can capture a photo or brief video with it, then add a caption or doodle or filter/lens over top, and send the finished creation (called a snap) to a friend." (Pocket–Lint). People can communicate with anyone around the world through pictures and videos. The way Snapchat has effected people in a good way is that you can stay connected with the world. Snapchat provided its users with news, gossip, and entertainment through the main page of Snapchat. Snapchat has different types of stories that businesses or news networks post on snapchat so that the users are Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. The Internet And Social Media Essay We live in an age of connection where a person's access to the internet is limited only by whether they have an internet ready device. The internet has allowed users to freely and effortlessly communicate with each other across the globe. This has opened up new and exciting prospects including forming friends aboard, creating a personal blog and competing in online games with people from other countries. It is estimated that around 2.95 billion people around the world use social media web–sites. In the United States (US) alone 78% of the US population have an active social media account (Social media statistics, 2016). The interconnectedness that the internet and social media provide brings fourth both the opportunity to communicate and abuse communication. The rate at which social media is expanding into everyday life meant that it is now a necessity to address the potential risks that social media inherently carry. Children and the elderly are of particular concern because of their inexperience and lack of knowledge of how the internet can affect their lives. Parents are concerned about whether their children will come in contact with explicitly online material and child predators. Regulatory bodies are now trying to devise strategies to minimize the risks of high risk groups. The purpose of this report is to investigate, identify and offer potential solutions to social media risks to enable regulatory bodies, high risk groups and parents to be informed and take Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Essay On Social Media Most of us are on it every day, but what is social media actually? Social media takes apart in the internet which is just a jumbled mess of networks. Social media consists of apps and websites all built on an electronic device whether a computer or a phone. Now social media makes it easy to communicate and be able to talk to others anywhere with a mobile connection. Also, it gives out new job roles and you can create accounts on sites to further put your life all over the internet. Not many people think of this, but we use social media to gather information on almost any topic or person. Lastly we use it to buy items and invisible concepts online. Since social media is so big, it can give out so many opportunities for almost anything. The first platform off of social media started in 1997 and ever since then, more and more sites have been added. YouTube is a site where creativity grows by putting up videos of anything you want. It 's not just a site, but is also a job opportunity for the creators on the site with enough subscribers and views. Another job on social media could be photographers, your able to sell/showcase your work on hundreds of websites like Tumblr as an example. Some bigger businesses put up ads on platforms or become sponsors for famous influencers that others follow. These jobs on social media create an easier way of living because there are more areas of the workforce to join. It adds new environments that maybe your parents didn 't get to enjoy or be a part of because it wasn 't even a thing back then. There more than just jobs, it 's like a lifestyle full of creativity and new openings that most people have never experienced before. Knowing that anyone in the world with a social media account can view your work, that can add true wonder into one 's daily life. Social media is just one broad term of one section of the internet. • 8. Social Media's Impact on Society Essay Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Snapchat, what do they mutually have in common? They are all social media websites. Social Media has become the number one way to communicate with other people from around the world. It has been beneficial and helpful to many, on the contrary harmful to some. People use social networks to catch up with a childhood friend, endorse their business, or develop news faster. Other people use it to steal identities, cyberbully, and abuse others. It has stated that social media's are "websites and other online means of communication that are used by large groups of people to share information and to develop social and professional contacts" ("social media.") Facebook allowed several new features that MySpace did not, for example: games like FarmVille, "poking" and more. As a result of social media, people have become more connected with each other, but consequently less connected with the real world. If people are less connected with the real world, then what is so beneficial about social media? Overall, social media can be an enjoyable and valuable tool, which allows you to catch up with a childhood friend, endorse their business, and acquire news faster. When you become an adult and graduate from high school or college, people like to reminisce about the glory days. Thanks to social networks like Facebook and Classmates.com, you can connect with your childhood friends and see what they are up to now. If you are planning your high school reunion, social network websites like Facebook, you can plan and invite people from Facebook to come instead of collecting new contact information. In addition, companies who use a social network can promote their business and attract more consumers to sell the product. Big business like Wal–Mart and Target can use the social networks to tell consumers what is on sale that week and offer coupons to help save money. It has a positive effect on young minds and a negative effect. The recent rise in those who own smartphones allows this everyday use of digital technology and social networking to be easier than ever before. At any time and any place, we have the ability to "socialize" with nearly anyone–even celebrities who have no idea most of us even exist. The continuous consumption of digital media has altered once personal face–to–face communication to just that, digital. More and more people seem to be living in what Sonia Maasik and Jack Solomon call "The Cloud". "The Cloud" is a seemingly alternate universe of which communication is altered from personal to digital. This universe has led to debates over whether or not these online communities are real or whether social media is actually social. Social media is possibly one of the best and worst creations in the modern world but the cons definitely triumph over the pros. Social media can be too informative at times. Suppose you were looking for a job and applied but the chances of ever being hired were ruined because of what you post online. The fact that one can be chosen to be looked up and be reviewed on based on their beliefs. For example "someone applying to become the new head of a science department. The applicant had attended conferences on creationism and posted notes online. Someone from the steering committee saw them and voiced concerns and the applicant was turned down" (Fox 7). It creates a mindset of having to second guess what you post due to the possibility of it affecting you in the future. Even if you do get hired getting passed the screening there is still the employer's awareness to posts that you may have to take into consideration. There is a chance of being terminated if you were to post something the employee may deem notable to consider letting you go. However Get more content on HelpWriting.net
