Pop Music Analysis
As the human race evolves and changes, so does its creations, ideas, and environment; music is no exception to this. Peoples ever–longing desire for
new ideas combined with the opposite need for stability has resulted, in the music world, in the creation of pop music, but what exactly is pop music?
Upon light observation, some people find pop music to bland and repetitive, but with further investigation there, is an interesting amount of history
behind America's favorite music style. When many people think of pop music they may think of today's artists such as Taylor Swift, Sam Smith, or
Ariana Grande, but before anyone can truly understand what pop music is, it must be defined. Pop music is derived from the phrase 'popular music'
which can be used to describe any sort of music favored by a large demographic of people. This definition shows that pop music has no real limitation
in sound or genre, and this is especially reflected when looking at billboard.com's Hot 100 55th Anniversary list. The online article shows every
number one song in the U.S. From 1958 to 2013, and proves several points. When examining the list, it can be noted that there is no single genre that
dominates the number one slot consistently. There are instances of Jazz, Rock, Psychedelic, Metal, and Hip–Hop music scattered throughout the list.

In the 60s there was a rise in blues influenced psychedelia with bands such as The Jimi Hendrix Experience and Cream. The 70s saw a rise in disco
and funk music as The Bee Gees and Parliament–Funkadelic became popular. The late 90s and early 2000s saw the birth of the 'bling' era of Hip–Hop
and the slow decease of interest in Jazz Rap groups such as A Tribe Called Quest. Trends like these continue today and are often used to a songwriter's
advantage in order to make a song more

Modern Music Analysis
In my experience "contemporary" has taken on the meaning of "pop" music, or what is being played on the radio. I, however, have not listened to a
radio in upwards of ten years. In loosening the true definition of "contemporary" artists, the modern music I listen to varies a lot. I listen to Japanese
and French artists, heavier bands, southern rock, 1990's pop music, grunge and alternative, pop–punk, acoustics, classical, oldies. Lately I have been
getting into spoken word bands. In my current state, the three bands I have been most listening to are Taking Back Sunday, Hotel Books, and
Movements.
Taking Back Sunday is still making music, though I won't listen to anything they wrote after 2007 or so. They were more popular in the early
2000's, and they are actually from New Jersey. I saw them live four years ago and was no disappointed. I can't see their music lasting as Bach,
Beethoven, or Mozart's has. In fact, it's already fading in popularity. Still, I think that musically and...show more content...
This said, lyrics are a huge part of whether or not I like a song (if it has lyrics, that is. Don't get me wrong; compositions without words can have
just as much impact as one with them, by making you feel using instruments). Hotel Books is spoken word, and their lyrics are outstanding. The
guy's voice is awful and the music itself mediocre, but I listen to them every day. It's pretty much just poetry to background music, but the words
resonate so well. I have a laundry list of favorite lines, but one of them is "She said 'I watched my house catch fire, I didn't feel a thing'. Well darling,
congratulations, I wish I had that sort of inner peace". That line really gets me thinking– she seems fine with her house and all the memories inside
burning up, and he wishes he could feel that way. He finds himself to be too sentimental and stuck in the past. It is poetic and an experience to listen

Rhythm is best described as the musical organization of sounds. The beat, meter and tempo help when describing rhythm.

The tempo is consistently fairly slow throughout Hello by Adele and it is in a quadruple meter. Thepiano emphasized the downbeat of each measure

Homophonic o Adele – lead singer o Piano, drum set, background singers, strings, guitar, bass guitar, toms
The homophonic texture is what most popular music today is described as. There is a prominent person, maybe a lead singer, and a background. Even
without the background, there may still be a song. The piano, drum set, background singers, string instruments, guitar, bass guitar and the toms add to
the song because they add their own dynamic to it. They all play a crucial and different role in the song as well.
The overall effect of the song, Hello, by Adele is effective in communicating the message of the song. Each section that I talked about above gives
unique qualities to the song that make people interested and like the song. I like how throughout the song, it builds more and more slowly by adding
instruments or even just instruments playing louder dynamics as the song builds. I also like how the song is not overly complicated and there is not
too much going on instrumental

First Selection: "The Stars and Stripes Forever"– John Philip Sousa (1854–1932)
First Hearing–
Cheerful, Eventful, Very Exciting
Second Hearing–
Sousa created a marching band that was organized like the European marching band. The music makes me feel exciting like I am at a parade, and they
have a marching band perform this song.
Third Hearing–
A marching band of numerous brass instruments (piccolos, flutes, oboes, clarinets, bassoons, saxophones, trumpets, coronets, euphoniums, trombones,
Sousaphones, tubas and percussion) are being played throughout the song and creating a marching beat of duple meter.

Second Selection: "Le bananier"– Louis Moreau Gottschalk
First Hearing–
Showy, admirable, dark
Second Hearing–
The composer wrote this charming piece of music because he knows the audience likes showy pieces. It was based on the appeal of tunes he heard
during his childhood. I enjoy the sound of the piano being played, and I loved how the composer uses it to make this very admirable piece.
Third Hearing–
This beautiful sound of music is being played by a piano. The piano was an excellent choice of instrument because it brings the sound of tunes that the
audience enjoys.
The dynamics is loud then it changes to louder at parts. When I first listen to it, it made me jump a little due to the fact it caught me off guard.
The tempo is fast throughout the song.
The tone color is dark in a way that is exciting.
The harmony has both minor and major key being played. Minor keys are being played first then in the middle of the song, the pianist used the major
keys.
The centerpiece has a melody that is based off of Creole

Musical Style Analysis
Musical Style Music has many different styles. It can create different emotions for the audience. From a quick, cheerful march, to a slow jazz, the
composer has to know which markings he should use. He to communicate what he feels. He needs to choose the right instruments to achieve the sound
he wants. With the right instruments playing the correct volume, the music will make anything from a warm slow tone, to a quick–paced jingle. In a
concert band, the dynamics, the level of the band, and which instruments play which parts determine the type of music it produces.
First, most music directors always urge their students to play with the correct articulation and dynamics. Articulating, playing either smooth, connected
notes, or quick short notes, adds much of the style to any song. Music has usually three different ways for articulating, but some songs do have others.
Staccato makes short, soft notes while Legato creates either a dreamy or majestic sound. Composers use marcato for an energetic song. The player
adds an accent to every note, meaning it starts fairly quiet, reaches a loud point, to finally cut off quiet again. All directors will tell students over and
over again to play the dynamics....show more content...
First year bands cannot play as advanced songs as 3rd year bands. One problem for the beginners would consist of not reaching more than one octave
range. This would force composers to write music in lower octaves, which does not make unpleasant music, but just a different tone. Most songs for
beginners only have natural rhythms, meaning no syncopation and most beginners might play only the melody. With an advanced band, they could
play more off–beat rhythms and wider ranged music. They could also have different solos in the piece because the players do not have to rely on
eachother for all the notes to come out. The beginner music does not necessarily sound bad, just has more simplified songs than an advanced

How Music Changed My Life
In the sixth grade, my friends and I were infatuated with video games, particularly Call of Duty. At the age of 11 and 12, my rank in a video game
was more important than the band I was in. I loved music since the third grade, and the band had started when I was in the fourth grade, but looking
back, it wasn't a passion at the time, more like a phase. Not putting my full attention in music at that age is my biggest regret in life. However, if I
hadn't been on PlayStation I would have never had the music conversation with a gaming friend that changed my life.
My earlier love for music was classic rock, classic metal, punk rock, and alternative. Of course, being around kids in school I had also went through
phases listening to rap and hip–hop. Tha Carter III, by Lil Wayne, Man on the Moon: The End Of Day by Kid Cudi and 808s & Heartbreak by Kanye
West were the most popular albums at the time. The radio could not be turned on where one the lead singles off of these three albums were not being
played. That time had also been the start of Drake's career. Of course, I listened to these artists at the time not knowing much about them, just going
along with the crowd, and when I was in my rock phase, I was taught to dislike these artists because they were "mainstream."
When I wanted to get back into listening to rap music, I needed to listen to an artist that shared the same ideologies of mainstream music being bad, an
underground artist. My friend that I had played Call of Duty with had exactly...show more content...

Melody is the the succession of single tones in musical compositions. This was used very well throughout the concert. The flutes were incredible as
they were high notes then percussion made a statement by low notes. Trumpets took part in making a statement for a being loud and in charge.
Harmony is the simultaneous combination of tones, especially when blended into chords pleasing to the ear; chordal structure. Each of the symphonic

Speculate about meaning or intention
The performance from the symphonic band was great! This was their spring concert. The songs consisted of Golden Jubilee March, Corsican Litany,
In the Temple of Zion, Grieg, and The Hounds of Spring. The songs were correlated around the spring time feeling. The songs were happy, and
cheerful. I had a electronic excited feeling throughout the concert. The artist talked about some vacations taken during spring break; some of these
trips consisted on going to Moab Utah, and Colorado. During the songs being played the notes felt like I was going on an adventure.
Prior to the concert starting the instructor started off with talking about the heat in the recital hall. The instruments occasionally will play sharp because
of the heat. I didn't notice at all.
I thoroughly enjoyed this concert! I was amazed of the difference from high school band to collegiate

At nighttime, two black teens run towards the camera away from several white police officers. In this scene, the teens stand out the most due to the
light, almost blinding, clothing. Upon the first viewing, the cops appear invisible as if lurking in the shadows. While the person on the right has their
face towards the camera, the other person turns their head to the cops. With the right–sided person unobscured face, examining their expression
becomes simple. It's as if this horrified teen is screaming as loud as possible. On the other hand, the black teen on the left has their attention on the
cops, blocking their expression but it appears shocked based on the little bit of face seen in the shot. As stated before, the police officers' outfits cause
them to blend into this night scene which illuminates the only light part of them; their white faces and arms. However, the cops seem calm, almost
confused as they walk behind the teens. As a result of their leisurely pace, it confuses the photo's tone presented by the screaming teen. It doesn't seem
as violent as another picture with black teens and white cops would. What is happening in this image; are the police at fault or are the teens? Even with
historical context, the motives of the individuals in this picture remain

Analysis Of The Sound Of Music
Summary The Sound of Music is a musical that tells the story of a family living in Austria during the years leading up to World War II. The movie
begins with Maria, a failed nun, becoming a governess to a family consisting of seven children and their widowed father. As the film develops, Maria
falls in love with the kids and their father, Captain Georg von Trapp. The Captain is a decorated, retired officer of Austria's imperial navy who
strongly opposes the Nazis. Maria and the Captain eventually get married and their family forms a singing group called the von Trapp family singers.
Later in the film, after the Anschluss occurs, Georg is told that he must accept a commission in the German navy, causing him and Maria to flee to
Switzerland with their children. The movie shows the numerous perspectives that people in Austria had about the Nazi regime and the Anschluss.
These major events can be seen from the views of those in support of the Nazis, those who opposed of the Nazis, neutralists, and even children.
Overall, it is made clear that there is much controversy surrounding the idea of Germany absorbing Austria.
Historical Accuracy Due to the fact that The Sound of Music is based off of a memoir by Maria von Trapp, it was not extremely difficult to determine
the historical accuracy of the film. While the overarching idea of the von Trapps fleeing Salzburg, Austria to avoid a life under Nazi rule is true, not
much else is. The list of historical inaccuracies and

Richard Wagner Music Analysis
Music is the most universal of all languages. Without words it can break a strong man into tears, reduce a brave woman to terror, and turn the most
high–strung to a state of peace. Unfortunately, the worth of music in today's society tends to be decided by its perceived popularity, rather than its use
of technique and emotion. This is one of the many reasons Richard Wagner tends to be underappreciated. Despite his masterful compositions and
development of many imperative techniques, much of his music is listened to by few and appreciated by fewer. However, that does not diminish any
of what he has done for the world of music, and the Romantic Era. Richard Wagner is the most influential composer of the Romantic Era for his use of
leitmotiv, command of the orchestra, emotional expression in music, and contribution to the romantic notion of nationalism. The camera zooms in on
the protagonist, surrounded by enemies. They're fighting with everything they have, and despite the odds are succeeding. A few simple notes, and
everyone in the movie theater knows the villain is about to enter the room – the stakes are higher than ever. This is an example of leitmotif, an
important musical tactic that the modern Western world has Wagner to thank for. Leitmotif is a short theme associated with a specific character or
situation. Wagner developed the technique, and used many of these in his operas (Fuller). This technique has become very popular in film, musical
theater, and

1) I chose this particular experiment to see what my mind would allow me to draw based on the way the music sounded. I thought this would be a

2)
I decided this experiment would be best if I wrote about it right after I did it. I sat down one evening and chose a classical music playlist that had
excerpts from different classical music songs. I chose this playlist because I felt it would give me different things to draw based on the way each
different song sounded. I also decided to have different colors set out so I could pick a new color every time I heard a change in the way the music

My very close friend laughed because she knows I can not draw, let alone with my left hand. My other friends thought it was funny because I do not

A main comparison I made from my experiment to Thoreau's ideas was the thought of nature. While I was listening to the different types of music no
matter what the song was I always thought of drawing something that had to do with nature. When hearing this music the first thing I would relate the
song to was something of nature. This relates to Thoreau's ideas about the importance of nature and how it has a big role on our lives and environment.
7)
I learned from this experiment that you should always be open to trying new things and do not have a closed mind when going into it. This experiment
taught me how the mind is wonderful and can allow you to interpret and feel different things from what you hear. I learned that doing things that
you are not used to like drawing with your nondominant hand require more focus and effort and leave with with unexpected results. I did very
much so enjoy this experience and thought it taught me things I did not realize. I would do this experiment again, but instead of classical music try
another genre of music and see what types of thing I feel when listening. Also if I do this experiment again I will give myself a bigger variety of
colors to see if that changes the way my drawing turns out. Lastly I would try this experiment again and try using my dominant hand to see if the

The tonality of the main theme is very complex. "One is a matter of tonality: his use of the minor modes and the pentatonic and hexatonic scales that
make up many of his themes. His use of tonality often includes harmonizations that are indicative of the Dorian mode. Another is his use of modern
elements: the occasional incorporation of minimalism or musique concrete." (Leinberger 70). The interesting use of harmonization allows for the
discussion of the tone. Tone can have such a major impact on how people perceive the characters in the film. Not only does Morricone use tone to
persuade the audience of the characters in the film, but he also changes themes to shake up the emotional feeling. "[...] he finds other ways to surprise
the audience throughout the film, not just with his unusual combinations of different tone colors, but with fast and exciting minor–key themes; slow,
mournful, and sometimes soaring major–key themes; dramatic shifts in tempo; gradual Beethoven–like crescendos of musical energy; and occasionally
an abrupt halt so he can begin to build the level of excitement all over again." (Leinberger 70). Changing the pace of the music, keeps the energy of the
piece high. The change prevents stagnation within the movie and soundtrack. It continues to keep the audience interested in the film and the music.

"Time is gone the song is over", now what? In life humanity craves more time. Time is the one fixation we cannot get enough of. Since humanity is
required to age, time seems to slip away. We don't comprehend how time is synthesized. Society knows it goes on forever, regardless of what happens
in life. Pink Floyd's album, Dark Side Of The Moon, had immense success. It was recorded in the summer of 1972 on Capital records. The song
Time was written by Roger Waters and recorded in the progressive era of rock and roll. The song is important because it demonstrates how people
don't realize that time slips away. The song displays this by means of engineering, instruments, lyrics, and arrangement. Therefore, taking us into how
this song fits the historical context of the progressive era of rock and roll.
The song Time had aesthetic engineering that sets the mood of time ticking away. The band consisted of David Gilmour, Roger Waters, Rick Wright,
and Nick Mason. At first glance Pink Floyd made the decision not to do use quadraphonic mix. Quadraphonic sound consists of four channels, right
front, left front, right rear, and left rear. This provides you with the impression of sound coming from a corresponding number of separate sources. Pink
Floyd realized that quadraphonic sound was just beginning to develop at that time making them change their minds and incorporate a quad mix. Which
was arranged by their engineer Alan Parsons. The song starts with clocks ticking, thunder,

Sigmund Freud Music And Music Analysis

Sigmund Freud #4
Throughout time individuals have found music to possess undeniable alluring qualities. To contrast the general populations enjoyment of music comes
Sigmund Freud's point of view. Sigmund Freud establishes his discontents with music, in that passage to showcases his dislike toward the art concept of
music as a whole. Furthermore, Freud believes music to be "unanalyzable" and meaningless due to its lack of words. This interpretation of music is
extremely concrete because music is much more than words on a page, music evokes emotion from within. Freud has an appreciation for other medians
of art such as sculptures but does not hold that gratitude for music. However, both lack words. Freud explains how he critiques art pieces by
"explain(ing) to myself what their effect is due to." His method of analyzing elaborates on his claim of not finding meaning in music because he
believes that without words meaning cannot be found. Freud highlights individual's inability to look beyond what is apparent to find the deeper
meaning within something seemingly concrete.
The idea of looking beyond the page allow one to indulge in the true emotions behind a musical piece. While music does not use words to convey
emotions it does poses a set of melodies it follows to appeal to listeners. By utilizing repetitive patterns of sound listeners are able to interpret the
message the composer it attempting to portray about life. Freud contends that meaning

Pop Music Analysis

  • 1. Pop Music Analysis As the human race evolves and changes, so does its creations, ideas, and environment; music is no exception to this. Peoples ever–longing desire for new ideas combined with the opposite need for stability has resulted, in the music world, in the creation of pop music, but what exactly is pop music? Upon light observation, some people find pop music to bland and repetitive, but with further investigation there, is an interesting amount of history behind America's favorite music style. When many people think of pop music they may think of today's artists such as Taylor Swift, Sam Smith, or Ariana Grande, but before anyone can truly understand what pop music is, it must be defined. Pop music is derived from the phrase 'popular music' which can be used to describe any sort of music favored by a large demographic of people. This definition shows that pop music has no real limitation in sound or genre, and this is especially reflected when looking at billboard.com's Hot 100 55th Anniversary list. The online article shows every number one song in the U.S. From 1958 to 2013, and proves several points. When examining the list, it can be noted that there is no single genre that dominates the number one slot consistently. There are instances of Jazz, Rock, Psychedelic, Metal, and Hip–Hop music scattered throughout the list. This...show more content... In the 60s there was a rise in blues influenced psychedelia with bands such as The Jimi Hendrix Experience and Cream. The 70s saw a rise in disco and funk music as The Bee Gees and Parliament–Funkadelic became popular. The late 90s and early 2000s saw the birth of the 'bling' era of Hip–Hop and the slow decease of interest in Jazz Rap groups such as A Tribe Called Quest. Trends like these continue today and are often used to a songwriter's advantage in order to make a song more Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Modern Music Analysis In my experience "contemporary" has taken on the meaning of "pop" music, or what is being played on the radio. I, however, have not listened to a radio in upwards of ten years. In loosening the true definition of "contemporary" artists, the modern music I listen to varies a lot. I listen to Japanese and French artists, heavier bands, southern rock, 1990's pop music, grunge and alternative, pop–punk, acoustics, classical, oldies. Lately I have been getting into spoken word bands. In my current state, the three bands I have been most listening to are Taking Back Sunday, Hotel Books, and Movements. Taking Back Sunday is still making music, though I won't listen to anything they wrote after 2007 or so. They were more popular in the early 2000's, and they are actually from New Jersey. I saw them live four years ago and was no disappointed. I can't see their music lasting as Bach, Beethoven, or Mozart's has. In fact, it's already fading in popularity. Still, I think that musically and...show more content... This said, lyrics are a huge part of whether or not I like a song (if it has lyrics, that is. Don't get me wrong; compositions without words can have just as much impact as one with them, by making you feel using instruments). Hotel Books is spoken word, and their lyrics are outstanding. The guy's voice is awful and the music itself mediocre, but I listen to them every day. It's pretty much just poetry to background music, but the words resonate so well. I have a laundry list of favorite lines, but one of them is "She said 'I watched my house catch fire, I didn't feel a thing'. Well darling, congratulations, I wish I had that sort of inner peace". That line really gets me thinking– she seems fine with her house and all the memories inside burning up, and he wishes he could feel that way. He finds himself to be too sentimental and stuck in the past. It is poetic and an experience to listen Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Meter: 4/4 (quadruple meter) Tempo: moderately slow The tempo is consistently fairly slow throughout Hello by Adele and it is in a quadruple meter. There is a prominent person, maybe a lead singer, and a background. Even without the background, there may still be a song. The piano, drum set, background singers, string instruments, guitar, bass guitar and the toms add to the song because they add their own dynamic to it. They all play a crucial and different role in the song as well. The overall effect of the song, Hello, by Adele is effective in communicating the message of the song. Each section that I talked about above gives unique qualities to the song that make people interested and like the song. I like how throughout the song, it builds more and more slowly by adding

Music Analysis Essay First Selection: "The Stars and Stripes Forever"– John Philip Sousa (1854–1932) First Hearing– Cheerful, Eventful, Very Exciting Second Hearing– Sousa created a marching band that was organized like the European marching band. The music makes me feel exciting like I am at a parade, and they have a marching band perform this song. Third Hearing– A marching band of numerous brass instruments (piccolos, flutes, oboes, clarinets, bassoons, saxophones, trumpets, coronets, euphoniums, trombones, Sousaphones, tubas and percussion) are being played throughout the song and creating a marching beat of duple meter. The tempo is fast until the middle of the song where it slows down. It then increases the speed back to fast. Second Selection: "Le bananier"– Louis Moreau Gottschalk First Hearing– Showy, admirable, dark Second Hearing– The composer wrote this charming piece of music because he knows the audience likes showy pieces. It was based on the appeal of tunes he heard during his childhood. I enjoy the sound of the piano being played, and I loved how the composer uses it to make this very admirable piece. Third Hearing– This beautiful sound of music is being played by a piano. The piano was an excellent choice of instrument because it brings the sound of tunes that the audience enjoys.

  • 8. Musical Style Analysis Musical Style Music has many different styles. It can create different emotions for the audience. From a quick, cheerful march, to a slow jazz, the composer has to know which markings he should use. He to communicate what he feels. He needs to choose the right instruments to achieve the sound he wants. With the right instruments playing the correct volume, the music will make anything from a warm slow tone, to a quick–paced jingle. In a concert band, the dynamics, the level of the band, and which instruments play which parts determine the type of music it produces. First, most music directors always urge their students to play with the correct articulation and dynamics. Articulating, playing either smooth, connected notes, or quick short notes, adds much of the style to any song. Music has usually three different ways for articulating, but some songs do have others. Staccato makes short, soft notes while Legato creates either a dreamy or majestic sound. Composers use marcato for an energetic song. The player adds an accent to every note, meaning it starts fairly quiet, reaches a loud point, to finally cut off quiet again. All directors will tell students over and over again to play the dynamics....show more content... First year bands cannot play as advanced songs as 3rd year bands. One problem for the beginners would consist of not reaching more than one octave range. This would force composers to write music in lower octaves, which does not make unpleasant music, but just a different tone. Most songs for beginners only have natural rhythms, meaning no syncopation and most beginners might play only the melody. With an advanced band, they could play more off–beat rhythms and wider ranged music. They could also have different solos in the piece because the players do not have to rely on eachother for all the notes to come out. The beginner music does not necessarily sound bad, just has more simplified songs than an advanced Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. How Music Changed My Life In the sixth grade, my friends and I were infatuated with video games, particularly Call of Duty. At the age of 11 and 12, my rank in a video game was more important than the band I was in. I loved music since the third grade, and the band had started when I was in the fourth grade, but looking back, it wasn't a passion at the time, more like a phase. Not putting my full attention in music at that age is my biggest regret in life. However, if I hadn't been on PlayStation I would have never had the music conversation with a gaming friend that changed my life. My earlier love for music was classic rock, classic metal, punk rock, and alternative. Of course, being around kids in school I had also went through phases listening to rap and hip–hop. Tha Carter III, by Lil Wayne, Man on the Moon: The End Of Day by Kid Cudi and 808s & Heartbreak by Kanye West were the most popular albums at the time. The radio could not be turned on where one the lead singles off of these three albums were not being played. That time had also been the start of Drake's career. Of course, I listened to these artists at the time not knowing much about them, just going along with the crowd, and when I was in my rock phase, I was taught to dislike these artists because they were "mainstream." When I wanted to get back into listening to rap music, I needed to listen to an artist that shared the same ideologies of mainstream music being bad, an underground artist. Harmony is the simultaneous combination of tones, especially when blended into chords pleasing to the ear; chordal structure. Each of the symphonic band's pieces flowed together great! The songs consisted of Golden Jubilee March, Corsican Litany, In the Temple of Zion, Grieg, and The Hounds of Spring. The songs were correlated around the spring time feeling. The songs were happy, and cheerful. I had a electronic excited feeling throughout the concert. The artist talked about some vacations taken during spring break; some of these trips consisted on going to Moab Utah, and Colorado. During the songs being played the notes felt like I was going on an adventure. Prior to the concert starting the instructor started off with talking about the heat in the recital hall. This approach represents the entire nature of the hip hop culture, especially when dealing with social justice issues. Today, the hip hop culture association revolves around raps (lyrics) and the rappers which reflect how consumers receive messages about social justice issues. Unlike breaking and graffiti, the music/lyrics penetrate society more. However, for this analysis, the focus will rely on a visual element with a connection to hip hop music. Even though a music video would make sense as a visual means of expression, this analysis has more interest in the cover art that goes with a hip hop album. Also, this focus will lead to the question of how important is art...show more content... At nighttime, two black teens run towards the camera away from several white police officers. It's as if this horrified teen is screaming as loud as possible. On the other hand, the black teen on the left has their attention on the cops, blocking their expression but it appears shocked based on the little bit of face seen in the shot. As stated before, the police officers' outfits cause them to blend into this night scene which illuminates the only light part of them; their white faces and arms. However, the cops seem calm, almost confused as they walk behind the teens. As a result of their leisurely pace, it confuses the photo's tone presented by the screaming teen. It doesn't seem as violent as another picture with black teens and white cops would. What is happening in this image; are the police at fault or are the teens? Even with historical context, the motives of the individuals in this picture remain Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. Analysis Of The Sound Of Music Summary The Sound of Music is a musical that tells the story of a family living in Austria during the years leading up to World War II. The movie begins with Maria, a failed nun, becoming a governess to a family consisting of seven children and their widowed father. As the film develops, Maria falls in love with the kids and their father, Captain Georg von Trapp. The Captain is a decorated, retired officer of Austria's imperial navy who strongly opposes the Nazis. Maria and the Captain eventually get married and their family forms a singing group called the von Trapp family singers. Later in the film, after the Anschluss occurs, Georg is told that he must accept a commission in the German navy, causing him and Maria to flee to Switzerland with their children. Historical Accuracy Due to the fact that The Sound of Music is based off of a memoir by Maria von Trapp, it was not extremely difficult to determine the historical accuracy of the film. • 15. Richard Wagner Music Analysis Music is the most universal of all languages. Without words it can break a strong man into tears, reduce a brave woman to terror, and turn the most high–strung to a state of peace. Unfortunately, the worth of music in today's society tends to be decided by its perceived popularity, rather than its use of technique and emotion. This is one of the many reasons Richard Wagner tends to be underappreciated. Despite his masterful compositions and development of many imperative techniques, much of his music is listened to by few and appreciated by fewer. However, that does not diminish any of what he has done for the world of music, and the Romantic Era. Richard Wagner is the most influential composer of the Romantic Era for his use of leitmotiv, command of the orchestra, emotional expression in music, and contribution to the romantic notion of nationalism. The camera zooms in on the protagonist, surrounded by enemies. They're fighting with everything they have, and despite the odds are succeeding. A few simple notes, and everyone in the movie theater knows the villain is about to enter the room – the stakes are higher than ever. This is an example of leitmotif, an important musical tactic that the modern Western world has Wagner to thank for. Leitmotif is a short theme associated with a specific character or situation. Wagner developed the technique, and used many of these in his operas (Fuller). This technique has become very popular in film, musical theater, and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 16. Music: Music Analysis 1) I chose this particular experiment to see what my mind would allow me to draw based on the way the music sounded. I thought this would be a cool experiment to see how I feel when different music is playing and how I interpret the music I hear into a drawing. 2) I decided this experiment would be best if I wrote about it right after I did it. I sat down one evening and chose a classical music playlist that had excerpts from different classical music songs. I chose this playlist because I felt it would give me different things to draw based on the way each different song sounded. I also decided to have different colors set out so I could pick a new color every time I heard a change in the way the music sounded. 3) The biggest thing I took...show more content... My very close friend laughed because she knows I can not draw, let alone with my left hand. My other friends thought it was funny because I do not like to do creative things like draw and my preferred song choice is not classical music. 6) A main comparison I made from my experiment to Thoreau's ideas was the thought of nature. While I was listening to the different types of music no matter what the song was I always thought of drawing something that had to do with nature. When hearing this music the first thing I would relate the song to was something of nature. This relates to Thoreau's ideas about the importance of nature and how it has a big role on our lives and environment. 7) I learned from this experiment that you should always be open to trying new things and do not have a closed mind when going into it. This experiment taught me how the mind is wonderful and can allow you to interpret and feel different things from what you hear. I learned that doing things that you are not used to like drawing with your nondominant hand require more focus and effort and leave with with unexpected results. I did very much so enjoy this experience and thought it taught me things I did not realize. I would do this experiment again, but instead of classical music try another genre of music and see what types of thing I feel when listening. Also if I do this experiment again I will give myself a bigger variety of colors to see if that changes the way my drawing turns out. Lastly I would try this experiment again and try using my dominant hand to see if the outcome would be similar or completely

"One is a matter of tonality: his use of the minor modes and the pentatonic and hexatonic scales that make up many of his themes. His use of tonality often includes harmonizations that are indicative of the Dorian mode. Another is his use of modern elements: the occasional incorporation of minimalism or musique concrete." (Leinberger 70). The interesting use of harmonization allows for the discussion of the tone. Tone can have such a major impact on how people perceive the characters in the film. Not only does Morricone use tone to persuade the audience of the characters in the film, but he also changes themes to shake up the emotional feeling. "[...] he finds other ways to surprise the audience throughout the film, not just with his unusual combinations of different tone colors, but with fast and exciting minor–key themes; slow, mournful, and sometimes soaring major–key themes; dramatic shifts in tempo; gradual Beethoven–like crescendos of musical energy; and occasionally an abrupt halt so he can begin to build the level of excitement all over again."
