My Love Of Nature
Living in our modern world today, being close to nature is something that goes undervalued. Luckily, my parents have influenced my love of nature,
by involving me to grow several trees supplying fruit, beauty, and to rake several leaves in the fall. Today, our backyard is a home to running
squirrels, nesting birds, and creepy crawlies such as snails, snakes, and spiders. All of the nature that is supplied by our house, is the cause that has

hispanic family opens my eyes to see the struggle to meet the rent, the payments of bills, and having leftover money to put food on the table. I have
been encouraged by my family, who also inform me to continue my education, but as a woman, defeat can be just around the corner. I have experienced
just the touch of the pain my aunts have had; the obstacles of having a child, having a job for stability, and still wanting to continue their education.

I would define nature as the world around us without any type of human involvement. I believe that nature is anything natural to the earth. It is the

the ocean and forest. Nature to me is the life source for all living creatures it provides us with the four essential things that we need to survive which

should use your sight and observe the natural beauty of the ever–changing sky, touch the rough and jagged bark of the trees, and hear the spectacular
songs of the birds that fly above you.
The connection between humans and nature is very weak. Due to future advancement we are basically losing our grip on reality, which brings up the
point of destruction to nature that we are not aware of. At one point in time nature was the most beautiful thing you could ever witness. Now people
exploit it for money. They are selling land, resources, even water for a profit. They don't think twice or blink an eye at the damage they cause. The
disconnect is so huge the debate of protecting the earth is treated as a forbidden topic. "Second, environmental injustices critics challenge the
mainstream environmental idea of what environmental problems are in the first place. They say its focused on the beautiful outdoors, it has anti–urban
bias, it isn't engaged enough with artificial human environments like neighborhoods and workplaces" (Purdy 4) That just baffles me how you can

Nature in Literature: Basho and Voltaire Nature plays a huge role in many pieces of literature, but especially Basho's Narrow Road to the Deep North
and Voltaire's Candide. There is a major difference between the two forms of literature and how nature is incorporated into each. This Japanese form of
literature has a much lighter tone than that of the European style of literature.

In the opening paragraph on page 454, Voltaire writes "Once upon a time in Westphalia, in the castle of Baron Thunder
–ten–tronckh, there lived a
young boy whom nature had endowed with the gentlest of dispositions." This opening sentence makes you believe that it could have a similar feel
to Basho's story. When you reach page 460, there is a line that says "While he was presenting his argument, the air grew thick, the winds blew from
the four corners of the earth, and the ship was assailed by the most terrible storm, within sight of the port of Lisbon." This passage not only shows
you that the nature of the story is a lot more dramatic, but it also shows you that Voltaire is more focused on the weather instead of the landscape.
There is a dramatic earthquake and a storm that destroys the ship that they are on. Page 461 says "Whirlwinds of flame and ash covered the streets
and public squares: houses disintegrated, roofs were upended upon foundations, and foundations crumbled." Voltaire writing this in his passage just

Was there a common response in people's answers?
A common response from the people surveyed comes under the question what are your beliefs on afterlife/heaven and do they affect your daily
life? All people surveyed had the same belief in there was an afterlife/heaven whether it be in reincarnation or proceeding straight into heaven. Some
answers varied to how it affects their lives. One answer (appendix 8) stated that it does not affect her daily life as she only lives in the present and is
not concerned with what happens after. Appendix 7 refers to the 'what goes around comes around' theory and he lives his daily life treating others as if
it were to come back around to him. This theory is also present in many of the Roman Catholic followers answers and hence the connections to
Christianity. It is seen in the findings that people believe to make it into a heaven/afterlife you have to live your life loving each other and caring for
others. This may be from the phrase that Jesus stated 'Love your neighbor as you love yourself' (Matthew 22:36–40). It is also clear that the older age
group of people try to live their lives by following the 10 commandments as the people surveyed made references to the commandments. This is

Historically, humanity has been obsessed with discovering the nature of reality. Every person eventually develops their own worldview based on their
beliefs, morals, and experiences. At one point in their lives, many people undergo a radical change in perception that forces them to change this view,
eventually adopting a new perception of reality. Such a transformation occurs once one starts to question the fundamental nature of one's own existence
and that of the world around them. This realization begins with the disillusionment with one's environment, continues with the questioning of one's
life's worth, and concludes with the acceptance of a new worldview.

After despairing over this realization, Antoine comes to term with his own existence and seeks to venture out on a new path in life in line with his new
understanding of nature.
One's inner metamorphosis begins with the general disillusionment with one's surrounding environment. Such a disillusionment can come in quick
succession, as with that of Esther Greenwood in The Bell Jar, or more gradually, as that of Antoine Roquentin in Nausea. The Bell Jar begins with
the reader experiencing this subconscious disappointment along with Esther as she struggles along her dream internship at a fashion magazine in

testimony to my own dirty nature," (24) continues with her sexual experiences that fall far short of her expectations, "...he just stood there in front of

He considered nature as a home and a place he felt he could be himself with freedom. He lived in a small house he built himself on the shore of
Walden Pond. He experienced living in a cabin. He spent most time outside exploring nature and walking a long distance in the woods. Henry David
Thoreau was one of the poets in the Romanticism period and was admired the beauty of nature. In the book Walden by Thoreau, he emphasizes the
deem he felt in nature and his reverence with nature. Fireside poets were influenced by the Romanticism period. Fireside had different aspects of
writing but wrote about nature as Romantic poets did. One of the Fireside poets Oliver Wendell Holmes, the author of the "The Last Leaf". The author
of The Last Leaf describes an old man's life and his appearance.

poems for a family to read around a fire camp as family entertainment but also were very presented in school rooms as portraits. "They wrote for their
