1) Hedda Kaphengst attended Prof. Ingo Scheller's seminars on everyday life under fascism, interpretations of artworks about Vincent van Gogh, and scenic interpretations of plays by Georg Büchner.
2) Prof. Scheller developed a method of "scenic plays" based on Bertolt Brecht's epic theater, where participants take on roles to explore their experiences, knowledge, and opinions.
3) Hedda Kaphengst actively participated in the seminars, acting in scenes and making oral and written contributions. She also completed a director's course qualifying her to lead scenic acting seminars.

During her Degree in Art and German Studies at the Carl von Ossietzky University in
Oldenburg, Hedda Kaphengst attended the following of my seminars, as well as
completing a director’s course:
1. Everyday Life under Fascism/ Exploring Fascism through Scenic Plays
2. “Vincent”. Biography, Literature and Art / Scenic Interpretation of Pictures and Texts
about Vincent van Gogh.
3. Georg Buechner: Leonce and Lena/ Woyzeck- A scenic Interpretation
4. Role-Play- Scenic Play/ Theory, Planning and Practice
The scenic Play is a form of learning that I have developed from the theoretical and
practical analysis of Bertolt Brecht’s didactic plays. Through the process of empathising
with roles, I have expanded the method of Brecht’s epic theatre in numerous university
and class projects, in which I have tried, tested and changed the approaches of Moreno,
Stanislawski, Strasberg, Boal and the writing of Roles (Egbert/ Rutschky, Spinner).
When referring to scenic interpretation, I mean the setting of literary texts into scenes by
means of scenic plays, i.e. interpreting these texts scenically. By dealing with the roles
and situations that arise in literature, participants can activate, display and become aware
of their own experience, knowledge and opinions, and gain an understanding of their
social effects.
Hedda Kaphengst participated actively in all seminars, acting in scenes and making
convincing oral and written contributions.
In addition to this, she has successfully completed a 3-semester director’s course,
qualifying her to lead scenic acting seminars. This course, which took the form of a
training seminar (4 hours per week per semester), focussed in the first semester on
empathising with roles and situations, in the second semester on the alienation and scenic
reflections of attitudes and scenes, and in the third semester, on views of directors. To
conclude this Training, she prepared her own scenic acting seminar, which she tested and
evaluated with students. Besides this she has been involved in other students’ seminars,
both as a participant and supervisor.
In addition she also presented an acting seminar in Summer 1995, which I ran during the
Pedagogical Week in Aurich.
2. Hedda Kaphengst has proved herself to be outstanding both as a participant in and
director of scenic seminars. She has a quick grasp and keen awareness of the essentials.
She can clarify and sum up complex relationships. Her work and contribution in the
seminars showed maturity and the ability to empathise. Her attitude to work was always
positive, competent and committed. In relation to her fellow students, she was open, calm
and composed. She can withstand conflict situations and suggest competent and creative
solutions.
I feel confident that Hedda Kaphengst is extremely capable of approaching other people,
and interacting and working together with them.
