-Morgan
Zabinski,
What is it like inside the Attleboro Food Service
operation? Morgan Zabinski, a Nutrition and Dietetic Student
was recently asked to write about her experience regarding an
exciting and beneficial opportunity she had through Framingham
State University. As part of her program Morgan spent eighteen
hours as an intern with the Food Services Department.
Read below to learn more about her experience:
“As a senior Dietetics student, I had the opportunity to work with
Attleboro Public Schools in order to learn more about nutrition
and to gain hands on experience in school food service. By
spending time in the elementary, middle, and high school levels, I
saw the different techniques food can be efficiently served at
each level.
Food Service Director, Heather Baril ,took me on as an intern and
showed me the major aspects of running a large-scale food
service operation. Other topics covered included production flow,
food safety and monitoring through HACCP, proper portioning,
and the proper storage of products. What I found most
interesting during my time here is the menu planning process. I
learned about how to ensure that proper nutritional standards are
being met, while also producing a menu that provides students
with options that they will also enjoy.
Throughout my time here, I have met numerous employees, both
management and staff, who definitely opened my eyes to the
amount of work and planning that goes into preparing food for an
entire school, along with satellite schools. Working alongside
some of these people gave me the chance to get to know their
