3. Joe Biden
Biden’s high emotional intelligence makes him so likable than Trump.
• HE ADMITS MISTAKES
At many instances in his political career it is seen that he does not hesitate to
admit his mistake in front of everyone.
• HE MOVES PAST DISAGREEMENTS
Initially Harris opted to throw her support behind Biden and raised money for his
campaign. In choosing her as a running mate, Biden was able to set aside personal
feelings and choose what he felt was best for the country, the party, and his
election chances.
4. • HE SHOWS EMPATHY
Biden showed empathy with people who died due to covid .Trump ignored this and
reiterated his claim, unsupported by facts, that the country was turning a corner
on the pandemic. He showed no empathy or concern for the people who had
passed away, or for their families.
• HE’S WILLING TO BE VULNERABLE
Growing up struggling with his stuttering and being teased in school have shaped
him to be more sensitive and compassionate to the pain of others. It may be
during these difficult times after the tragic loss of his wife and daughter that
Biden’s empathy was formed. He understands others feelings and pain.
6. Donald Trump
Trump is deficient in emotional intelligence – the self-mastery, discipline, and
empathic capacity that allows leaders to channel their personal passions and
attract others.
• HE LACKS SELF CONTROL AND DISCIPLINE
Trump has proven deficient in terms of self-control, leaving him unable to move
toward the center for the general election. Likewise, he has failed to display the
discipline needed to master the details of foreign policy.
• HE IS NARCISSISTIC
Trump’s narcissism has led him to overreact, often counter-productively, to
criticism and affronts. For example, he became embroiled in a dispute with an
American couple whose son, a US soldier, was killed in Iraq, and in a petty feud
with Paul Ryan, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, after Trump felt
slighted. In such cases, Trump stepped on his own message.
7. It is this deficiency in his emotional intelligence that has cost Trump the support of
some of the most distinguished foreign policy experts in his party and in the
country. In their words, he is unable or unwilling to separate truth from falsehood.
He does not encourage conflicting views. He acts impetuously. He cannot tolerate
criticism. Trump has been disqualified by his second-class temperament.
