Proven Experience
Harney Stone Racing thoroughbreds are 100% sourced from New Zealand with a minimum of
1-2 starts or successful trial. So before they even arrive down under the horses have proven
they can run which eliminates any uncertainty in their ability.
Additionally Harney Stone Racing brings together a team of highly experienced experts. Trainer
Aaron Purcell has established himself as a highly successful trainer highlighted with
recent Group 1 winner Aloisia in the Thousand Guineas. Owners Stephen and Rachael Harney
are experienced thoroughbred owners with a dual Group 3 Winner and Group 1 performer.

Harney Stone Racing thoroughbreds can be racing in as little as 5 weeks from arrival. There
is no waiting 12 months to see if they can perform. The horses arrive broken in and ready to
run.
This shorter time frame results in a lower risk of injury and lower cost outlay before your first

Racing, they are keen to provide the opportunity for others to experience horse racing as they
have.
About Stephen & Rachael Harney
Stephen has been living and breathing horse racing since as long as he can remember, having
been introduced to it by his racing enthusiast father and encouraged by the pursuits of his uncle
(who has been involved in horse ownership his whole life).
By age 3, Stephen and his form guide were (OR with a form guide in hand was) following his
father around the house and correctly answering various questions about any horse's form.

2. Stephen further developed his obsession with horse racing by attending the Warrnambool May
Racing Carnival, going every year since he was 5 years old.
Rachael has similarly been obsessed with horse racing since she was little. She waited a year
longer than Stephen did before going to the races, regularly attending the Terang Harness
Racing with her Grandpa Frank since she was 6 years old. She would spend the nights visiting
and speaking to all of the horses, and have 50c each way bets!
When Stephen and Rachael eventually met, attending the Melbourne Spring Carnival annually
was a foregone conclusion – even when they worked away at Port Hedland for a couple of
years, they made sure to get their week off over 'Cup Week'.
For them, the glitz and glamour of the spring carnival has an alluring addiction; spending
months preparing for the carnival and getting the fashion on point just enhances the experience
of witnessing the sheer power and physicality of the thoroughbred. Why would you want to be
anywhere else?
With their combined passion towards horse racing, it was natural to progress towards horse
ownership and being involved with a dual Group 3 Winner and Group 1 Performer.
This has taken them around the country (as they make sure to never miss any of their horse's
races) and introduced them to new lifelong friends from all parts of Australia, with whom they
have been lucky enough to share the indescribableling of winning at the top level.
