Analgesics are central nervous system depressants that reduce pain without loss of consciousness, while antipyretics lower fever but not normal body temperature. There are two types of analgesics: narcotic analgesics like morphine that strongly act on the central nervous system, and non-narcotic analgesics like aspirin and paracetamol that mildly act on the peripheral nervous system. Narcotic analgesics stimulate opioid receptors in the CNS and modulate pain perception, while non-narcotic analgesics relieve pain without interacting with opioid receptors and also have anti-inflammatory and antipyretic effects.
