3. INDIAN NAVY
The Indian Navy is the maritime
branch of the Indian Armed Forces.
The President of India is the Supreme
Commander of the Indian Navy.
The Chief of Naval Staff, a four-star
admiral, commands the navy.
As of September 2022, the
operational fleet consists of 2
active aircraft carriers and
1 amphibious transport dock,
8 landing ship tanks, 11 destroyers,
13 frigates, 1 ballistic missile
submarine, 16 conventionally-
powered attack submarines,
24 corvettes, etc.

5. AIRCRAFT CARRIERS IN INDIA
INS Viraat was the flagship of
the Indian Navy
before INS Vikramaditya was
commissioned in 2013. It was
sold to India in 1987.
INS Viraat was commissioned into
the Indian Navy on 12 May
1987, and served for almost 30
years.
INS VIKRAMADITYA is a modified
aircraft carrier and the Flagship of the
Indian Navy. It entered into service in
2013.On 14 JUNE 2014, the Prime
minister of India, Narendra Damodar
Modi,formally inducted INS
Vikramaditya into the Indian Navy
6. INS VIKRANT OLD
THE STORY OF INS VIKRANT
India's first aircraft carrier,
INS Vikrant, with pennant
number R11, was built for
the British Royal Navy as
HMS (Her Majesty’s Ship)
Hercules on October 14,
1943. It was commissioned
in the British Royal Navy in
1945. After World War II
ended, the ship's
construction was stopped.
It was later sold to India in
1957 in an incomplete
condition.
7. INS Vikrant underwent a four-year-long refitting at Harland and Wolf Yard in
Belfast, Ireland. The ship arrived in India on November 3, 1961 and formally
join the Indian Navy fleet in the Bombay Harbor. The commissioning event
was attended by then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru amid great fanfare.
INS Vikrant played a major role in India's decisive victory in the 1971 war
with Pakistan. It helped suppress the ground movements and resupply the
Pakistani Army in the east by blockading East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) as a
whole.
The ship was
decommissioned in 1997
and laid anchored off
Mumbai Harbor, serving
as a museum. In 2013,
the central government
decided to scrap the
ship as it was becoming
too expensive for its
upkeep. The ship was
finally scrapped in 2014.
8. INS VIKRANT NEW
Prime Minister Narendra Modi
commissioned India's first
indigenous aircraft carrier INS
Vikrant at Cochin Shipyard
Limited in Kochi on
September 2,2022.
INS Vikrant is an aircraft carrier
constructed for the Indian Navy. It is
the first aircraft carrier to be built in
India. It is named Vikrant as a tribute
to India's first aircraft carrier, INS
Vikrant. The name Vikrant means
"courageous" in Sanskrit.

10. 16-bed hospital: The warship,
which took over a decade to be
built, is equipped with a 16-bed
hospital, 250 tankers of fuel, and
2,400 compartments.
The warship would be capable of
operating air wing consisting of 30
aircraft comprising of MIG-29K
fighter jets, Kamov-31.
