Our Major Fundraising Project
At David Lewis our fundraising mission is to raise £1million to fund a state of the
art building to accommodate our Physio and Occupational Therapists. These
new facilities will enable us to redesign and deliver person-centred therapy
programmes. Our challenge is to build a much needed facility that will be fit for the
future for our residents at David Lewis.

“This is the biggest fundraising challenge we have ever faced and we really need the support
of everyone who is able to help.” Nicky Downes, Fundraising Manager.
Janet Bott, Director of Clinical Services adds: “Over the past few years treatment options
have changed considerably, we need to replace our cramped and outdated therapy room
with new facilities where residents can receive the therapy they require. People now have
more complex individual needs and with that complexity come additional requirements.
At the moment, we have a very small space that doesn’t have room for all the equipment”
This presents us with a huge fundraising challenge to raise £1million. The new purpose built facility
will allow us to continue to deliver our commitment to provide high level therapy programmes
for the people who use our services now and for future generations. Everyone who supports this
essential project can be certain that their contribution will make a concrete difference to the
lives of people living with complex learning and physical disabilities.
For more details on this development or to find out
how you can support our fundraising please contact

make a contribution.
Rebound Room:
Rebound Therapy uses
a trampoline to assess
individuals and develop
tailored programmes
to promote therapeutic
movement and exercise for
a range of people. Currently
the trampoline is housed in a
multi-purpose hall, so access
is shared and limited. It takes
time to put the trampoline up
and dismantle it at the start
and end of every session, so
our new facilities will include
a dedicated room with a
sunken trampoline to improve
access. The team has really
noticed the benefits not only
of using the trampoline for
very specific therapy and
also recreation.
Sensory Room:
Janet said “More young
people are being diagnosed
with autism and these young
people on the autistic
spectrum have defined needs
particularly relating to sensory
input”. We will have space for
a sensory swing that will be
used to create sensory stimuli
to help an individual feel
organised and focused. At the
same time the therapist sets
small tasks for the person, for
example to throw a hoop at a
target. In doing so the individual
is encouraged to use all their
senses together. Over time
the aim is to enhance sensory
integration with the ultimate
goal to improve wellbeing
and performance in everyday
occupations.
Clinical Assessment
and Physiotherapy
Treatment Rooms:
Building the new facility will
allow David Lewis to have
dedicated rooms where
assessments and treatments
can take place and
individuals will therefore be
able to access a range of
treatments under one roof with
added space and privacy.
Hydrotherapy:
Hydrotherapy is a form of
exercise carried out in a
specially heated pool to
treat a variety of conditions
where physiotherapists use
slow controlled movements to
help relieve pain and improve
mobility without putting pressure
on weight bearing joints.
Here is an overview of some of the facilities the new development will feature:
Here are some examples of how your donation will make a
difference to the lives of the people that use our services.
£350,000 could pay for our new Hydrotherapy Pool where people gain valuable
physiotherapy treatment essential for mobility and balance.
£105,000 could pay for a fully equipped waiting area, a calming environment to
alleviate any anxieties, pre and post treatment.
£15,000 could pay for a movable suspended hoist, enabling safe movement
between treatment zones.
£11,750 could pay for wall mounted tracks for the essential hoists that are needed in
our Rebound and Treatment rooms.
£6,000 could pay for a fully fitted changing room enabling people to prepare for
treatment sessions in a secure and private environment.
£1,500 could pay for the sunken trampoline in our Rebound Room which helps our
therapists assess and promote therapeutic movement.
£1,250 could fit out our Equipment Store Room so that all the therapy equipment
is stored safely out of the way when not in use, but is still easily accessible to our
therapists.
£570 could pay for a Linear Swing for our Sensory Room, helping to develop
coordination and concentration as well as helping the individual to feel organised
and focused.
£144 could pay for a Padded Floor Mat to ensure the comfort and safety when using
the equipment in the Rebound and Sensory rooms.
Our projects are funded solely by donations so whatever you can
give makes a huge difference enabling David Lewis to continue
its commitment to provide high level therapy programmes for
individuals living with learning disabilities, epilepsy and autism.
