JOB DESCRIPTIONJOB TITLE:____Medicaid Paralegal_____ FLSA STATUS: _____Non-exempt______DEPARTMENT: _____________________ SUPERVISOR: _____Administrator____SUMMARY: The Paralegal will have responsibility to assist attorneys in general with Medicaidplanning as well as filing and processing Medicaid applicationsESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:1. Learn Medicaid rules and process2. Be involved in developing a highly efficient system for intake, filing, and processing of Medicaid applications3. Could be involved in business development of the Medicaid practice area if so desired4. Correspond with clients during the intake process to obtain the necessary information and documents for the responsible attorney to do the Medicaid planning and/or file a Medicaid application5. Be part of client conferences to understand what Medicaid planning is done for a client6. Meet with the responsible attorney to develop a task list to implement the Medicaid plan7. Talk directly with the clients’ advisors/staff to obtain documentation on their accounts and other verification for the Medicaid application8. Talk directly with the clients’ advisers/staff to transfer ownership of various accounts consistent with the task list9. Work directly with case workers for the Department of Human Services on processing requests for informationKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:1. Very passionate and strives for excellence2. Experience in a law firm is helpful, but not required3. Desires to be involved in developing a system for filing and processing Medicaid applications4. Extremely organized and has the ability to manage a significant amount of documents and significant number of client matter matters at one time5. Obsessively focused on detail and deadlines6. Constantly looking for ways to improve the processes that are in place7. Highly personably and enjoys working directly with clients and other professionals (i.e. financial advisers, insurance agents, etc.) and their staff8. Very motivated and desires to learn a complicated area of the law9.
