Ask • Some properties that make the parachute fall slow are long suspension lines and a large canopy with no holes because if we have canopy with holes all the air will go through the canopy causing the parachute to go faster and crash. • We can not put all of these properties in one spacecraft because there are all to big to put a single spacecraft. • Two criteria we need to address with our parachute design are speed and size because we wouldn't want it to fall too fast or the parachute could crash. - 6. Improve Design #2 • We are going to expand the canopy size to 19 inches wide because we think our parachute will fall slower than before. Tuesday, February 19, 13
- 7. Plan Design #2 Canopy area score 19 +19 = 38 Suspension line length score 24 x 4 = 96 Total parachute packing score 38 + 96 = 134 We are mission ready! Tuesday, February 19, 13
- 8. Create Design #2 Our new average drop speed 3.9 feet per second. Tuesday, February 19, 13
- 9. Share • Our improved parachute fell faster then before because our average score went from 3.7 feet per seconds to 3.9 feet per second. • We could improve our parachute even more because the parachute didn't turn out how we expected it to be. • We could use the engineering design process to solve our problems we had like the size of our canopy and suspension lines.
