2. INTRODUCTION
KVK is a district level farm science Centre which can help in
speedy transfer of technology to the farmer's field by building
bridge between SAUs/ research institutes and the farmers.
The first KVK was established at Puducherry on 21st of march
1974.
Total KVK ( India ) = 714 (ICAR)
KVK (Rajasthan) = 44
3. INTRODUCTION
VISION :-
Science and technology led growth leading to enhanced
productivity, profitability and sustainability of agriculture.
MISSION :-
Farmer centric growth in agriculture and allied sectors
through application of appropriate technologies in specific agro –
ecosystem perspective.
4. Objectives of KVKs
Planning and conducting survey of the operational area.
Planning and conducting production – oriented, need- based short and
long duration training courses.
Developing and organizing non-formal educational programmes.
Organizing farm science clubs, both in rural schools and in villages.
Developing and maintaining the campus farms and demonstration units.
The integrated rural Development in collaboration with concerned
organization.
Implementing all such schemes of the ICAR and other related
organizations.
5. Mandate and Activities of KVK
Technology Assessment and Demonstration for its Application and
Capacity Development.
To implement the mandate effectively, the following activities are
envisaged for each KVK.
1. On farm testing to assess the location specificity of agricultural
technologies under various farming systems.
2. Front line demonstrations to establish production potential of
technologies under various farming systems.
6. Mandate and Activities of KVK
3. Capacity development of farmers and extension personnel to
update their knowledge and skills on modern agricultural
technologies.
4. To work as knowledge and resource Centre of agricultural
technologies for supporting initiatives of public, private and
voluntary sector in improving the agricultural economy of the
district.
5. Provide farm advisories using ICT and other media means on
varied subjects of interest to farmers.
7. Organizational Structure of KVK
1. Senior scientist = 1 post
2. SMS (Subject Matter Specialists) = 6 Post
(Agronomy , Extension education , Horticulture , Plant protection , animal
science, home science)
3. Programme assistant = 3 Post
(Computer operator, Farm manager, Training )
4. Account officer = 1 Post
5. Driver = 2 Post
6. Stenographers = 1 Post
7. Peon = 2 Post
Total Post = 16 Post
8. Role and Responsibility of the KVK
On farm Testing :- Each KVK operates a small farm to test new
technologies , such as seed varieties or innovative farming
methods, developed by ICAR institutes. This allows new
technologies to be tested at the local level before being
transferred to farmers.
Front – line Demonstration :- Due to the KVKs farm and its
proximity to nearby villages, it organizes programs to show the
efficacy of new technologies on farmer fields.
9. Role and Responsibility of the KVK
Capacity Building :- In addition to demonstrating new technologies, the
KVK also hosts capacity building exercises and workshops to discuss
modern farming techniques with groups of farmers.
Multi-sector support:- Offer support to various private and public
initiatives through its local network and expertise . It is very common for
government research institutes to leverage the network of KVKs when
performing surveys with a wide range of farmers.
Advisory services:- Due to the growing use of ICT, KVKs have
implemented technologies to provide farmers information, such as
weather advisories or market pricing , through radio and mobile phones.
10. Strategies for Working in KVK
By taking in account the productivity, production and income of the
farmer in totality for the development of sustainable agriculture
following strategies are adopted :
Remunerative agriculture
Climate smart agriculture
Food and dietary diversification agriculture
