Fontenoy Survives Sudden Death Shootout to Remain in the Premier League
Saturday 21st November, 2015-St. George’s-
Come 2016, Fontenoy United will once again be playing top flight football in
Grenada after surviving one hundred and eighty minutes and ten penalties before
being assured of another chance at Premier League football in the Grenada Football
Association’s top division.
Fontenoy secured its spot after surviving a tough battle and a sudden death
showdown with Police SC.
The second leg of the promotion/relegation playoff kicked off at Beausejour with a
thrilling early goal in the 16th minute from no.21 for Police Dwayne Jerome.
The lawmen would have themselves to blame after they squandered three easy
chances in the dying stage of the match.
It was the only goal in regular time and this meant Fontenoy and Police SC were
tied on aggregate goals.
To break the deadlock, the game went into extra time with both teams failing to
convert. Then it was onto penalty shootouts. Mistakes on both sides saw the match
tied up again.
It all came down to a thrilling sudden death shootout. Number 15 for Fontenoy,
Chelon Edgehill made no mistakes in finding the net however Police’s Derrick
Edwards was wide of the post.
Therefore, Fontenoy stays alive and remains in the GFA Premier League for next
season.
