The Key to Successful Development and Deployment of Applications from Mobile ...
DESKTOP TRANSFORMATION PROJECT
1. DESKTOP TRANSFORMATION PROJECT
Implement support for the Desktop Transformation Project moving 50,000+ employees’
desktops and applications in Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Montana, and California (30
hospitals and over 400 clinics) to Windows 7.
Conduct high-end / complex application troubleshooting.
Deliver a high level of exceptional customer service with each and every customer interaction.
Project Overview:
A. Discovery / Rationalization: Determine if an app is an inflow candidate to the
Microsoft ACF (App Compatibility Factory) for App-V packaging, or if it should be
packaged internally via our CSE team or Citrix packaging team, or installed manually.
Locate an Analyst/SME (Subject Matter Expert) for the app via the APM
(Application Portfolio Management) site and App Rationalization Database to
determine who primarily supports the app.
Install the app on test box to learn about the app and the expected behavior to validate
the install and create install documentation to be forwarded to the ACF if none exists.
Gather information including: Network path to install bits & install
documentation, Pre-requisites (other apps needed, drivers, DB requirements,
ODBC connections, TCP/IP Ports, Licensing, Drive Mappings), Pre or Post
install Configurations, Environment Dependencies (Service Accounts required,
Access to External Network, Special Permissions or Group Memberships),
Different install procedures for different regions, Authentication Method, etc.
B. Inflow: Once Discovery completed, send app to Microsoft ACF for App-V Packaging.
C. Clarifications: Research/troubleshoot/answer any “clarifications” from the ACF during
their testing/packaging process.
D. UAT: Conduct UAT (User Acceptance Testing) with users on apps packaged and sent back
from the ACF and put on MDT servers.
E. App Validation: Prepare data and then validate and identify gaps regarding the application
scheduled to be delivered/deployed.
F. Deployment Readiness: Evaluate list of applications for upcoming deployment waves -
identify app disposition, gaps, manual installs, exceptions, contact end users, etc.
