1. Request For Proposal – 3D Logo Development January 23, 2013
Invitation:
1. You are hereby invited to bid the work described herein. Bids are due on or before January 30, 2013.
2. This will be “work for hire”; final requirements will include release of working files and the transfer of
all rights to MetaPower.
3. Compensation will be paid in relation to complete and accepted work, in mutually agreeable phases.
Following execution of the agreement, the Contractor will be expected to submit a short work plan, a
short list itemizing your costs, and a list of subcontractor contact information (if any).
4. Provide with the bid, a description of the software and techniques to be used in production of this work.
Also include a very brief bio and several examples of similar work for review.
Objective:
Create a 3D logo that can be animated in various ways by MetaPower staff or consultants. It will be an artistic
rendition of MetaPower’s new 2D Logo. It shall appear sophisticated and professional, similar to a medical
illustration. When rotated in space and stopped in plan view, the new 3D model will be the exact shape and color
as the new MetaPower logo-mark. It will be used in video segments, as website motion objects, and in other
messaging vessels. Shared Meaning plates (holding the blue square) will be created as discrete objects, capable of
separate choreography. These plates will display running video in place of the blue field, while the plate moves in
space. A stack of plates will also move (example: up & down) within the dual-head “culture” object, to indicate
“work in progress” or “data processing”. Include video renderings from the model according to the Scope of
Work below. The video renderings will be used immediately in a series of training segments produced by
MetaPower. The working title for the series is “Culture Training 101”.
Scope of Work:
1. The final 3D Logo shall conform to this RFP and the images below. Begin with the Sketchup file
provided. Motion captured in final video segments will be choreographed by the video production
supervisor. RFP bid files (3D SKP file included) are available for download from the MP Media
LinkedIn Group which you will need to join. Consult Jake Allen ( jacoba@metapower.com ) or Ben
Lewis ( ben.lewis@lewisconsultation.com ) for details.
2. Include the dramatic use of light, shade, shadow and reflection in motion. Audio is not required.
3. Provide a mechanism in the model to vary the color and texture of a continuous background, similar to
green-screen.
4. Provide a minimum of 2 drafts of the model, plus 2 drafts of all final video segments for approval.
5. Rendered video clips will run no more than 10 seconds each, and will include: 2 bookends and 3 chapter
transitions. Files to provide: 3D model, NLE app, After Effects, MP4 of all drafts and final segments.
6. A small amount of text based titles may be required within the model itself, layered for optional hiding.
7. Bookend - Front: Model of the dual-head orbits, Stack of Plates reorganizes & shows work-in-progress
activity, Top plate switches on and begins to run the video, Top plate with its running video approaches
and envelopes the camera lens, Training video begins (same video segment as on the top plate). Front
Bookend is likely to be shorter than the Finale.
8. Bookend – Finale: similar to the Front piece. Training video (by others) transitions to rendered model
clip. Shared Meaning plate with clip running in its frame starts close-up and zooms out. With video
onboard it flies to a position in the plate stack, the stack reorganizes itself, the dual-head orbits and
returns to 2D plan view, Logo text & tagline animates in. Fade to black. Roll credits by others.
9. Chapter Transitions: Short clip, video plate zooms out, parks in a serial spot in the stack, the next plate
flies to the camera with its running clip, next training chapter segment begins. Provide three Chapter
Transitions with fly-in/fly-out motion, progressing top to bottom in the stack.
2. Figure 1 - Rendering from the Sketchup model provided. Shows how the 3D logo object explains the meaning of the 2D
mark, but also organizes & launches Shared Meaning plates as they tell video stories.
Figure 2 - MetaPower's new 2D logo in 3 versions. The Finale/Bookend animation should orbit the 3D model into a
plan view and be joined by the “MetaPower” logotype, followed by the tagline. Last video depiction of the logo should
resolve precisely to the 2D color version (above top) with tagline.

3. Figure 3 - These are Sketchup Layouts rendered from the existing (provided) file. Shows how each "plate" in the stack
can have both a branded blue state and a running image condition. In Chapter Transition segments, the plate returns to
its spot and the next story-plate zooms into the camera lens.
Figure 4 - Future use of the 3D model. This is a screenshot from the GUI of MetaPower's cloud app now in Beta. In this
use, the small 2D logo mark will show subtle motion (like a slideshow in the square). Upon mouse-over the 3D logo will
animate and offer hyperlinks to more information, such as the back-story to The Quest For Shared Meaning.
