Council announces successful tender
for Orion Beach Shared User Path
project
Shoalhaven City Council has awarded the tender for construction of the Orion Beach Shared User Path
to Brefni Excavation and Earthmoving following last night’s Ordinary Meeting.
The Orion Beach Shared User Path project forms part of the Round the Bay Walk and will build on pre-
existing walking routes between Callala Bay and Hyams Beach.
The Orion Beach component of the project will complete a missing section of pathway inclusive of a 500
metre section commencing at Minerva Avenue and ending at Plantation Point Parade.
Mayor, Joanna Gash said the pathway would see the construction of a 2.5 metre shared user path
combining both concrete and elevated sections made from fibre enforced plastic.
The Mayor also thanked Member for Gilmore, Ann Sudmalis for her confidence in the project and
funding of $450,000 saying the pathway would not be possible without this assistance.
“The Orion Beach Shared User Path is an extremely exciting project that will provide the community with
a state of the art pathway offering million dollar views across the waters of Jervis Bay,” said Clr Gash.
“The pathway has been designed in such a way as to take advantage of the amazing views and pristine
natural splendour while also providing the area with another state of the art recreational facility.
“Once completed, this project will also offer visitors yet another reason to stopover with the pathway sure
to provide the area with ongoing economic and tourism benefits through increased visitation.”
“I am also extremely pleased to see the path will be able to cater to disabled people and young families
pushing prams meaning that all local residents will be able to enjoy the area’s ‘jewel in the crown’.”
“While this has been a long time coming, I welcome the announcement of the successful tender and look
forward to the commencement of works in the near future.”
