1. OCTO – Technology Storage Proposal
Based upon my personal experience and discussing measures for proper storage of computer
devices at other schools, I propose the following plan for the storage of technology devices and
assorted wires and peripherals at Horace Mann ES:
Computers (Desktops)
1. All desktops should have wires/cable unplugged (save for the connection to the wi-fi dongle
which is easily spotted as it is bolted to computer with screws).
2. Wires should be wrapped neatly and place on top of desktops in black trash bags.
3. Store Desktops in designated cage/location.
4. Monitors should be placed in separate storage (optional: with or without plastic bags).
Computers (Laptops)
1. Faculty, Teachers, and Staff should save all necessary documents, pictures, videos, etc. to a
USB flash drive, external harddrive, or cloud technology (i.e. dropbox).
2. OPTIONAL: Faculty, Teachers, and Staff who wish to have devices returned next school year
should label their devices using masking tape for the writing surface and sharpie marker).
3. Wrap up wiring for chargers neatly and place it in a plastic bag with laptop.
4. Place any external peripherals such as DVD players and HDMI cables into the bag along with
laptop
Printers
1. Unplug Power and Ethernet Cables from Printer.
2. Wrap up cables neatly.
3. Remove any remaining blank papers and cartridges. Papers and cartridges should be placed
in plastic bags labelled with respective Faculty, Teacher, and Staff name.
4. Printers and cabling will be stored separately. Cabling should be stored in Telecom Closet.
SmartBoards
1. Collect peripherals (remote, pens, and eraser) and place in ziplock bag with Faculty, Teacher,
and Staff respective name.
2. Unplug SmartBoard power cable from the wall.
3. Cover SmartBoard and projector with plastic tarp to prevent possible dust or water damage
over the summer.
4. Keep rooms between 68-78 degree Fahrenheit over summer for maximum lifespan.
Audio Devices (FOR CLASSROOM marked for RENOVATION ONLY)
1. Remove all relevant wiring and devices that are not firmly attached to the wall and place in
single plastic bag.
a. Make sure to wrap all wiring neatly and place in separate smaller bags for the sake
of swifter redistribution prior to new school year).
