The document provides information about upcoming events and decisions from a member meeting of the Gateway Project. In January, Amnesty International will hold a focus meeting at Gateway about human rights and mental health. The newsletter and schedule will now be available online and at drop-in times and locations instead of being mailed due to budget constraints. At the member meeting, decisions were made to allow computer use near the massage area with dividers and to establish a walking group. Members will have opportunities to get involved in various groups in 2013. The next member meeting will discuss the cinema, walking group, speakers and new members.

Dear Member,
Overleaf you will find our December 2013 schedule for Gateway.
Amnesty International: Amnesty is at the moment designing a course for people who work in the area of mental health
around human rights and mental health and they need our help to make it work as users of the mental health services.
They will have a focus meeting in Gateway on the 16th of January 2013 from 4.00pm to 6.00pm – all members welcome.
Posting of Newsletter 2013: Every month we post out the newsletter, schedule and member’s to about 80 members –
unfortunately budget will be tighter next year and we need to be kinder to the environment. From January 2013 - you will
be able to find the newsletter, schedule and member’s letter in four places:-
In drop-in at the start of the month and all throughout the month (During drop-in hours Monday&Thursday).
In the Rathmines Pembroke Community Partnership 11 Wynnefield Road, Rathmines (five days a week during
office hours).

Minutes of the Members Meeting of the Gateway Project

1. Welcome: Mary Q chaired the meeting and welcomed all members
2. Minutes: The minutes of the members meeting from 12th November were read by Mary Q. A discussion took place
about allowing people without self-experience of mental ill health into Gateway. It was suggested by that this should
apply to volunteers and students.
3. Cinema: Ciaran and Nicholas delivered letter to Cinema Manager requesting reduced rates for Gateway members.
The Manager will bring this letter to the next staff meeting. Ciaran& Nicholas will follow up this matter.
4. Members Decision: Indian Head Massage and use of computers in the back room: It was decided to allow members
use the computers when the massage is in progress provided they do not use the speakers. There is a divider that can
be used for privacy.
5. Members Decision: Dart board:None of the members present were interested in playing darts.
6. Peer Council: Members were not clear as to why there was a speaker invited into Gateway to talk on the Human
Rights Enhancement Committee. A discussion followed about the role of a peer council and the members having
more involvement in selecting the speakers.
7. Christmas Meet Ups: Members were reminded of the meet up times and venues. A big thank you to all members
who volunteered to attend these and support Members to meet up during Christmas.
8. Members Decision: Work experience – a member of Gateway wants to get work experience for three months three
days a week:- members voted in favour of allowing this member do work experience in Gateway
9. Member’s involvement 2013: A discussion took place about groups members would like to be involved in. The
majority of members said they would like to see the walking group re-established. Members can get involved in the
following in 2013: Advisory Committee, Decorating Group, Newsletter Group, Hospital Visiting Group, Being an
active Member during drop – sharing your skills with other members e.g. teaching people pool, computers, etc.,
Leadership – cinema going group, theatre going group, walking group etc.
