2. Being Mentally Healthy
We all have mental health, like we all
have physical health. Both change
throughout our lives. And, like our
bodies, our minds can become unwell

3. “What do you do in Counselling?”
• You may be unsure about something or
somebody; Anxious, upset or confused
• Counselling is a type of talking therapy that
allows a person to talk about their problems
and feelings
• A counsellor will listen with empathy (by
putting themselves in your shoes)
• Help deal with negative thoughts and feelings
• The counselling process is a planned
structured dialogue between counsellor and
client giving support and develop your own
insights into the issues

5. CONTRACT OF COUNSELLING
• Counselling is always at the request of the individual –
no one can properly be “sent” for counselling
• Depending on the issues that are brought will depend
on the length of time a student will have counselling –
from an initial assessment to many sessions – even
over a period of years.
• This is about YOU – YOU lead; YOU choose
counselling

7. Wellbeing
Wellbeing is not just the absence of
disease or illness. It is a complex
combination of a person's physical,
mental, emotional and social health
factors. Wellbeing is linked to how you
feel about yourself and your life.

Editor's Notes
Hi, my name is Gail Churney, a counsellor here at Habs Girls, and I am here to talk about being mentally healthy. Yesterday in assembly we heard from Rosanna at Students Minds and she spoke about talking to your friends – Looking after your Mate Campaign. Today I would like to talk about “taking care of yourself”.
