The use of GIS in secondary and university education around the world is entering an exciting new era enabled by web GIS, GPS enabled smartphones, citizen science, and new competency and geoliteracy models. It is marked by pedagogical and technological trailblazing by enterprising educators who have overcome numerous challenges to teach about and with GIS in a wide variety of settings, to students of all ages, in lecture rooms, computer labs, and in the field.
