2. Some Important information about mental
health
• About 450 million people live with mental disorders
that are among the leading causes of ill health and
disability world wide.(WHO, world health report,2001)
• One person in every four will be affected by mental
disorder at the same stage of their lives while mental,
neurological and substance use disorder (WHO,2012)
3. • WHO (2018) states that every 40 seconds someone
dies by suicide.
• Annually, this represents over 800,000 people that
die by suicide which is more than people dying by war
and homicide put together
4. • Suicide is the second leading cause of death among 15
to 29 years old while 79% is of global suicides occur in
low and middle income countries (LMIC).
• Every suicide is a tragedy that affects families,
communities, and entire countries and has long
lasting and devastating affects on the people left
behind.
5. Mental Health
• Health means feeling well in one’s body, mind ,emotions and
relationships with others.
• Mental health is an important part of it. Mental health is a state of
well –being with ourselves and others.
• sometimes we go through situations that make us suffer and that can
affect our well-being.
• There is no health without mental health.
6. The person who has good mental health he can contribute to his /her
community.
• Can work fruitfully.
• Individual realize his or her own potential.
• Copes with their normal life stress.
7. Some of these situation that can affect our
well-being are:
• Witnessing violence.
• Loss of property
• Forced displacement
• Separation of family member
• Breaking up relationship.
• Socio-economic crises.
• Superstition
8. These situations can generate some reactions
such as:
• Sleeping problem
• Crying repeatedly
• Fear
• Sadness
• Confusion
• Lack of appetite
• Difficulty to connect people.
9. • Lack of motivation
• Loss of concentration.
• Worry about past.
These are normal reaction in stressful situation. If these reactions are
making the person feel a lot of emotion, pains, they last too long or
they are affecting daily activities then you need to ask for help to get
treated.
10. • Sometimes some people start worrying too much,feeling guilty
suicidial thought speaking irrevalent, hearing, seeing,smelling,tasting
the thing which are not present.
• mention that quite a lot of somatic symptoms can be caused by
mental health problems
• some remarks on the therapy, about counseling or/and medication
12. Referral pathway:
We have CMHE( community mental health educator) for community
level, counselor, psychologist, Mh gap doctor and psychiatric in our
mental health.(MSF-OCB)
