The Environmental Division commends the military, civilian and
students who have helped to protect the Environment by recycling
actively. There is much more to do and we depend on your support!
Fort Buchanan RECYCLING regulatory drivers are: 1) Executive Order (EO) 13990 (or most recent) 2) Army Regulation 200-
1; Chapter 10-2, the Fort Buchanan Pollution Prevention Plan, and the Fort Buchanan Integrated Solid Waste Management
Plan. In accordance to the Environmental Management Action Plan (EMAP) #2, a DOD goal is set to achieve a recycle rate of
40% of the generated solid waste, 60% for Construction & Debris and reduce by 2% the yearly solid waste generation.
Hazardous Waste is reduced and minimized by actively implementing Green Procurement practices. Fort Buchanan shall
demonstrate innovation and avoid waste generation through source reduction, reusing and recycling.
Fort Buchanan’s janitorial cleaning services contractor picks up all the recycling
materials accumulated in office areas they service. These recycling materials must
be placed and accumulated in designated, marked or labeled (MOSTLY BLUE)
recycling containers. Color coded plastic bags (white-transparent bags) identify
RECYCLABLES from regular waste (grey-black bags).
