SALIENT SKILLS
Extensive experience with technology in a variety of contexts. Started with technology by learning FORTRAN during his MA
program. Worked with SAS, SPSS, the Digital Authoring Language, BASIC, and Apple Pascal during his university career.
Strong background with Windows software development, beginning with the Windows 2.11 SDK and C5.0. Made the
transition to C++ when it became available, and transitioned to Visual Basic at version 2.0. Worked with VB 6.0

support, including backups and restores, creation and running of scripts, and refreshes of development environments to a
community of over 6,000 users.

2. Revised institutional effectiveness plans so that each program and course had measurable student learning outcomes, each
of which was associated with two measures, one of which had to be a direct measure of student learning. Served as
Database Administrator, managing all data related to institutional effectiveness. Managed two SQL Servers 2008, one that
supported institutional effectiveness research and one that supported faculty research. Retrieved data from an
undocumented and poorly structured database to provide custom reports that supported federal auditing requirements. Used

Server Pages, and wrote complex stored procedures in Transact-SQL to support reports written in Crystal Reports (All

redundant copies of logs and backups, and proactive monitoring of system performance.

Additional Information
Author of twenty-five computer books, the most recent of which is SQL: A Beginner's Guide from Osborne/McGraw-Hill
(2000). This book provides basic instruction in Transact SQL, and has been taken over by another author at this time.
During the time I wrote computer books, I also did contract development editing for New Riders Publishing.
Completed the Program Management Certificate Program at the University of Louisville Delphi Center (approved by PMI)
