FCT Bus Rapid Transit
Program
(FCTA)
The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) is
implementing an integrated mass transit programme
comprising of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) on selected
routes and the Rail Mass Transit (RMT) to cater for
the transport needs of the population.
* The CBD to Masaka Corridor is the subject of African Development Bank funding if certain conditions are met.
FCT Suleja/Zuba BRT ExpansionFocus
The project will utilise 100 rehabilitated Abuja
Urban Mass Transit Company (AUMTCO) buses
to provide the improved system with dedicated
lanes from the existing slow bus mass transit
(BMT) service.
Is proposed to provide an improved,
efficient and sustainable transportation
BRT service.
100
Traffic management measures will be used to
eliminate the informal and environmentally
inefficient mini-bus service.
The indigenous people along the BRT corridor
will be employed as part of the workforce at
AUMTCO, and for construction of the
BRT infrastructure.
The BRT will reduce the number of cars on
the road which will reduce accidents.
It will also improve safety of the road users
and improve travel time.
Objective
Expand and improve bus services
Expand and improve park-and-ride
facilities
