s we usher into the future, the
way we know the world has
already changed beyond our
imagination. Last 30 years have played a
very critical role in transforming the
world in a silent yet dynamic and
irreversible manner.
Though, it is not like that that there has
been no path-breaking innovation or
technology advancement in past, the
difference is in the pace and direction. In
the past, whatever the world had
witnessed starting from invention of fire
to wheel to electricity and aircraft, was
one at a time.
In other words, it was a linear technology
innovation and evolution phase which
human race lived through, but, now,
what we are witnessing is a non-linear
technology innovation times. This
innovation phase has the pace that
humans have never experienced before,
the newer technologies are disrupting
businesses, industries and traditional
sectors in a never-before manner. The
direction is impossible to predict.
The closest analogy to this could be
imagining a life in a 4D world where we
have got more power but, we do not
know how to leverage it.
Impact of Non-linear Technology
innovation
In a typical scenario, a technology comes
into the active usage when it efficiently
solves a deeply troubling problem.
Furthermore, if a technology solves a
troubling business problem, then it gets

far more value associated with it as
businesses are keen to pay for using it
and become more profitable.
However, traditionally, the business
technology had been the area which has
been looked after by the organisation’s IT
department only. This has had been very
effective as well, so far, despite several
technological changes such as from
client-server to enterprise software to
internet and so on.
But, everything changed completely in
last 10 years. We have seen SMAC (Social
Media, Mobile, Analytics and Cloud)
disrupt the way we work, do business and
live our lives. The businesses are yet
trying to adapt to these changes, yet,
Gartner’s new report1 is setting up tone
for far more technologically advanced
times. As per the report, by 2020-2022,

Interestingly, it does not end here. The
inadvertent impact of penetration of
digital technology in businesses is that
that several top CIOs have expressed
their expectations2 from their IT
investments and the most surprising
expectations are:
1. 66% believe that their
technology investments would
drive more revenue from their
operations. This is interesting
because otherwise traditionally
technology has often been
considered a supporting pillar in
an organisation rather than a
revenue-driver parameter.
2. 48% hope to get more
business from digital channels.
This is again a surprising finding
because this highlights that
significant number of CIOs view
digital channels as a leading
opportunity generator rather than
a good-to-have marketing tool.
This means that they would be
nurturing and actively following
these channels to grow their
business.
3. 40%CIOs intend to engage and
empower their employees using
digital technology. This aspect
clearly highlights that the digital
technology of today is not
restricted to IT department of a

company but, also entails the HR
department as well as every
employee the organisation to
perform at their best potential.
4. Lastly, 39% believe that digital
technology would help them in
cost reduction. The interesting
part about this number is that
usually, technology has been
considered the cost centre for a
company wherein at times a
separate purchase department is
also created to manage the IT
budgets well. However, this
number highlights that how IT-as-
a-service is changing this
paradigm and transforming
mindsets.
This tectonic change in thinking has been
fuelled by the freedom of thinking and
doing whatever the businesses want to
achieve in terms of growth and
innovation. They have the capability to
work with machine learning, augmented
reality, virtual reality, artificial
intelligence, IoT, big data analytics and
more while having access to all these at
upto 66% cost-saving3.
How does it translate to growth
opportunity for a business?
According to the article published in The
Economic Times4, in the Q1 of this fiscal
year, the growth recorded for digital

businesses compared to last year’s
quarter is 29% while for the 81% of non-
digital businesses, the growth was 6-7%
only, much below than their respective
industry average.
This clearly means that businesses which
have not started their digital
transformation journeys are slowly
getting stagnant in terms of business
growth. This is certainly bad news
because the non-linear technology
innovations, that world is witnessing
currently, will ensure that such
businesses die in next 5 years. Whereas,
the businesses which have started
transforming their business models with
digital transformation at its core will get
to see unprecedented growth in the near
future.
Business growth with Foetron-powered
Microsoft cloud offerings
The future ahead is going to be about
optimised business operations which
would mean comprehensive usage of
automation, big data and other advanced
technologies. However, at the core of it,
the businesses will be relying on a secure,
powerful and elegant cloud computing
solution. This would naturally point to
Microsoft cloud offerings starting from
Microsoft Azure to Office 365. We have
already mentioned the benefits of these
technologies.
However, the biggest challenge will be
the skilled workforce to translate the plan
into successful implementation. This is
where Foetron Learning & Adoption
programs come into picture. We enable
businesses and enterprises to not only
invest in Microsoft cloud but also, how to
adopt it effectively for bringing efficiency
into their organisation using digital
technology.
FLAG – your Digital Transformation

most suitable adoption approach.
Thereafter, the execution of the plan is
started.
The agreed upon plan is delivered
through a combination of hands-on
workshops, training sessions, webinars
and other interactive sessions.
We have engaged with several
organisations for our FLAG programs.
Few highlights are underneath:

FLAG Session
A session is the smallest unit for FLAG
program. We are sharing two examples
of the sessions:
1) This is a 90-mins session overview
where we help customers
understand the possibilities that
exist with Microsoft Office 365.
The session overview can be

2) Example Session Plan for OneNote
2016. There are two parts of this
session
a. Discussion around context
specific issues.
b. Feature mapping to the
relevant contexts.
Conclusion
The businesses who are preparing
themselves for a digitally transformed
future will be able to survive and grow
exponentially in the era of non-linear
technology advancements.
