Advantages and Disadvantages of Immediacy:
In the context of an increased to desire to be more immediate with another individual, a
sensation of friendliness can be transpired. According to Richmond, “Malesand females who
appear to be more immediate are also perceived as more likeable than males or females who
appear to be nonimmediate” (Richmond, 2012, p.228). An increase of communication is seen
amongst individuals with immediacy as it increases a person’s level of perceived friendliness
and approachability which in turn lowers that initial barrier for unknown individual to
approach someone and feel intimidated by the unknown outcome of interacting with such
person. Such scenario is what occurred during my initial encounter with Angela. Our first
date, as mentioned earlier in the text, took place at the movies.
