Communication on sustainability during the Ecoprocura Event in Ghent: The European event about Green Public Procurement: www.ecoprocura.eu

2. FOOD
Did you know that the global production
of agricultural crops accounts for 70% of
the water use and that 31% of the total
CO emissions in the EU-25 come from
food?!
Rethinking the way you cater is crucial in
reducing your ecological footprint. The
city of Ghent puts .BE SUSTAINABLE into
practice. Experts in footprinting and
vegetarian food, CO2Logic, Ecolife and
EVA helped the cooks to make sustainable
choices. The walking dinner is vegetarian
with seasonal, local, fresh and, as much as
possible, non-processed ingredients. This
allows in general for a reduction of 85% of
the greenhouse gas emissions and 30 %
of the water footprint. The results and tips
on how to improve your foodprint are
presented at this event.
3. MOBILITY
Mobility often has the highest
environmental impact at international
events. Transport of the participants
contributes to the climate impact.
Ecoprocura ‘14 wants to reduce the impact
of mobility to a maximum.
We motivate participants to use
environmental transport to come to the
Ghent (train rather than airplane). Bikes
are available to all participants to drive
from the hotel to the venue and vice-versa.
For the touristic visits, electrical boats are
used. We choose suppliers from a range
within 20 km from the venue.
4. VENUE
To reduce the impact of Ecoprocura ’14, we
aimed to make this conference as
sustainable as possible:
The ICC Conference Hall has been
awarded with the green key label. We use
cradle to cradle inspired stands in the
sustainable market. Built from re-used,
recycled and non-toxic materials and with
energy-ecient lighting and low impact
printing. Bamboo is chosen for our pitch
constructions. Did you know that bamboo
is the most sustainable timber? We avoid
all individual packages of the catering
products. And last but not least, we made a
resolute choice to work closely together
with social entrepreneurs.
