This is my Timed Analysis for Troye Sivan's youth music video for Media G324

00:00-00:06- Establishing shot of Troye Sivan’s side profile, with lots of colour
around, and the title of the music video comes up “Youth”, the camera shot is a
pan, it moves as he moves his head.
00:06-00:13- Jump cut to Troye sitting on a sofa singing to the camera, with a
zoom shot, zooming from a far shot to a mid shot of Troye.
00:13-00:15- Jump cut to Troye standing in a door way, half shot, showing the
side of him, with pink and purple lighting beaming out from behind him.
00:15-00:20- Jump cut to different shots showing Troye walking around a
house, starting with a dolly shot following him from behind, then a zoom shot to
him walking towards the camera in a hallway.
00:20-00:25- Jump cut to Troye on the sofa singing again, the camera as a zoom
shoot, but starting when the sofa shot before left off, from a mid shot to close up.
00:25-00:32- Jump cut to Troye in the hallway again but this time the camera is
zooming out instead of in.
00:32-00:35- Jump cut to him standing by a front door, with the constant colour
effect of pink and purple and a pan shot around him.
00:35-00:39- Jump cut to far shot of him in the hallway with a zoom out shot
and Troye moving back as well.
00:39-00:41- Jump cut to close up of Troye’s face singing, walking down the
hallway again towards the camera, but the camera moving back at the same time
keeping the same focal length.
00:41-00:48- Jump cut to green colouring of Troye sitting on a work surface in a
kitchen with loads of friends around him laughing and partying, the camera shot
is a zoom shot towards Troye, going through the crowd to him.
00:48- 00:49- Jump cut to pink colouring and two girls sitting in a den like place,
laughing together.
00:49-00:50- Jump cut to an close up of two people about to kissing with one of
the subjects face in shot, but the others has half the back of their head in shot.
00:50-00:51- Jump cut to Troye with his arms around a man, slight pull shot.
00:51-00:52- Jump cut to the green kitchen effect with people laughing in the
left third of the frame.

2. 00:52-00:56- Jump cut back to Troye singing on the sofa, pull zoom shot
towards him, then quick cut to the hallway but now dark with two silhouettes
very close to each other, to a quick shot of a silhouette dancing in the pink light,
then a fast cut to Troye singing but an extreme close up.
00:56-00:57- Jump cut to Troye about to kiss his boyfriend- pull zoom shot, stop
before they kiss.
00:57-00:58- Jump cut to Troye singing on the sofa, with his arms in the air, pull
zoom.
00:58-01:04- Jump cut to different shots in a blue light revealing different
people playing with balloons, kissing, hugging and just having fun, shown by the
use of panning shots.
01:04-01:09- Jump cut to several different scenes of people’s silhouettes
dancing, in the hallway, in the sitting room and on the dance floor, helped shown
by a small pan on each shot.
01:09-01:13- Jump cut to Troye and his boyfriend in the den, with lots of teddies
around them, intertwining their fingers and laughing at each other, zoom shots
going towards their faces, ranging from far shot to close up.
01:13-01:20- Jump cut to different scenes in the den and around the house,
showing all the couples through zoom shots. The camera shows Troye and his
boyfriend in the den again but it starts at a far shot out of the den, but zoom into
the den.
01:20-01:21- Jump cut to an extreme close up of Troye’s face, with a bright light
across the frame to change the scene.
01:21-01:24- Jump cut to the darker blue lighting with people on a dance floor
type area, dancing with balloons- as silhouettes as the camera pans to follows
them.
01:24-01:26- Jump cut to close up of Troye crossing his fingers (to act out the
lyrics), then shown in the hallway with fairy lights standing still but the camera
zooming to him.
01:26-01:32- Jump cut to the people dancing with balloons, but with pink
lighting as well as dark blue. As the shot changes from Troye singing to the
camera in the hallway, to the people dancing, with zooms into Troye and pans to
establish and follow the dancers.
01:32-01:38- Jump cuts between Troye singing in the hallway, with extreme
close u of face with bright lights across the frame, to Troye and his boyfriend in
the tent, zooming towards them.
01:38-01:44- Jump cuts between Troye in the hallway and by the front door,
showing close up to extreme close up through zoom shots, but the frames are cut
up with people singing and dancing and Troye in the den, but this time, only he is
in the shot, his boyfriend is still holding Troyes hand but all way can see is Troye.
01:44-01:48- Jump cuts to people being stereotypical reckless youths, with the
first zoom shot to a couple, the boy about to pierce a girls tongue, to the next one
of a girl in a bath with all her close on- the camera shot far, showing her whole
body, but a high shot so it’s looking down at her.
01:48-01:58- Fast jump cuts through several different scenes, going from Troye
singing in the den, to a pan shot of a girl with high tongue on an electric ball,
cutting to the kitchen, with a girl sat on the kitchen worktop, but the camera
zooming into her flashing shoes as she’s swinging them, The shot then goes make
to a close up of Troye’s face in pink lighting singing into the camera showing a

3. nose piercing which through the video is the first time this is clear of him having
one. Then the shot changes to a light cylinder spinning around as with see a close
up of Troye’s face looking into the light, as the camera zooms into his face.
01:58- 02:05- Jump cut to Troye singing, with a side profile in the door way,
then back in the hallway, both shots was zoom shots towards Troye.
02:05-02:19- Fast jump cuts throughout showing panning shots to show people
having fun, at far shots, but every time zooming towards Troye.
02:19-02:27- Jump cuts between Troye singing in different places, singing in the
hallway, singing in the door frame, singing in the den and then singing by the
door, all with flashing colour.
02:27-02:29- Jump cut to a close up of Troye dancing with his boyfriend, zoom
shot towards his face to an extreme shot as they look as if they will kiss.
02:29-02:35- Jump cut back to pink lighting and Troye singing on his own with
the fairy lights, the camera shot zooming out as his walks towards it, but at times
standing in the same place, going to a far shot.
02:35-02:44- Different jump cuts to different couples all about to kiss but the
frame ends just as they are about to, as they lean towards each other, the camera
zooms in.
02:44-02:52- Jump cuts to different people on their own dancing in the hallway
with the fairy lights flashing away and the dolly tracking shot of the camera
moving towards the subjects.
02:52-03:02- Jump cuts to the different people dancing in groups, but now we
get to see the couples kissing, along with Troye and his boyfriend- the main
reveal, the camera zooms towards them ending in an extreme close up.
03:02-03:17- Jump cut to Troye in the hallway as the song stops, walking away
from the camera and the focus getting more and more distorted as he walks
away.
