Open Source
Open Source is software whose source code is available for modification
or enhancement by any one .
“Source code” is a part of a software that must computer user ever see:
its
the code computer programmers can manipulate to change how piece
of “software” or “program” application works.
Opening the source code enabling self enhancing diversity of production
model, communication path and interaction communities.
A main principle of open source software development is peer
production, with product such as source code, “blueprint” and
documentation available to public at no cost.
The open source movement in software began as a response to the
limitation of proprietary code and has since spread across different field.
This model is used for development of open source appreciate
technology, solar photovoltaic technology and open source drug
discovery.
 Open Source Initiative
 The Open Source Initiative (OSI) is an organization dedicated to promoting
open source software.
 Open source initiative that indicates the source code of a computer program
is made available free of charge to the public.
 The organization was founded in February 1998 by Bruce Perens and
Eric. S. Raymond, part of a group inspired by the Netscape Communication
 Corporation publishing the source code for it Flo ship Netacape
Communicator product.
 Some Successful Open Source Projects
 1) Linux
 Linux has come a long way since Linus Torvalds announced that he was
creating an OS kernel based on Minix back in 1991. These days a majority of
web servers run Linux with Ubuntu
2) Android
 Android is a mobile operation system which is uses the Linux kernel.
 Now this operation system very popular in the world.
3) My SQL
 My SQL is most widely used database server in the world, used by huge
amount of web site and services.
 Ex: Facebook, Wikipedia, Pingdom.com and other websites.
4) Apache
 Apache HTTP server has been the most popular web server software in the
 world since 1996. Apache is currently used in 46% of all web sites.
 In 2009 it passed in huge milestone, becoming the first web server to be used
in 100 million web sites.
