3. Another step we need to take after we’re saved is
to consecrate ourselves to the Lord Jesus. To
consecrate yourself means to give yourself to the
Lord. Paul says in Romans 12:1-2 NIV
4. Romans 12:1-2 NIV
“Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view
of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living
sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your
true and proper worship. Do not conform to the
pattern of this world, but be transformed by the
renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test
and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing
and perfect will.”
5. By consecrating ourselves to the Lord, we become a
living sacrifice, putting ourselves completely in
God’s hands. Previously, our lives were for
ourselves; now, they’re for Him.
6. Consecrating ourselves to God helps us walk in His
way, grow in His life, and enjoy His salvation. It also
allows God to work in us.
7. Now, in the church God has ordained His people to
be the recipients of miracles, signs, and wonders –
God’s promises. But in order for us to receive the
promises we must first begin by consecrating
ourselves and according to Romans 8:1-17 that
takes place four ways.
8. Romans 8:1-2 NIV
“Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those
who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ
Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you
free from the law of sin and death.”
9. Romans 8:3-4 NIV
“For what the law was powerless to do because it
was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending his
own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin
offering. And so he condemned sin in the flesh, in
order that the righteous requirement of the law
might be fully met in us, who do not live according
to the flesh but according to the Spirit.”
10. Romans 8:5-6 NIV
“Those who live according to the flesh have their
minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who
live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds
set on what the Spirit desires. The mind governed
by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the
Spirit is life and peace.”
11. Romans 8:7-8 NIV
“The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it
does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so.
Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot
please God.”
12. Romans 8:9-10 NIV
“You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but
are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of
God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the
Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ. But if
Christ is in you, then even though your body is
subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life
because of righteousness.”
13. Romans 8:11 NIV
“And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the
dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the
dead will also give life to your mortal bodies
because of his Spirit who lives in you.”
14. Romans 8:12-13 NIV
“Therefore, brothers and sisters, we have an
obligation—but it is not to the flesh, to live
according to it. For if you live according to the flesh,
you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the
misdeeds of the body, you will live.”
15. Romans 8:14-15 NIV
“For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the
children of God. The Spirit you received does not
make you slaves, so that you live in fear again;
rather, the Spirit you received brought about your
adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba,
Father.””
16. Romans 8:16-17 NIV
“The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we
are God’s children. Now if we are children, then we
are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if
indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we
may also share in his glory.”
18. The Bible, however, speaks about an intimate and
dynamic relationship with Jesus. He is, after all, a
person, not a “theological concept;" not someone
who once lived on the earth and now is far away,
but a person who is alive and can be very near.
19. He, Himself, was tempted in all points just as you
are, but overcame sin and death.
20. (Hebrews 4:15; Romans 6:8) Because of His
faithfulness, He has all the power and grace to help
you to overcome sin in your life.
21. Romans 6:8 NIV
“Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will
also live with him.”
22. Hebrews 4:15 NIV
“For we do not have a high priest who is unable to
empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one
who has been tempted in every way, just as we
are—yet he did not sin.”
23. This also means that your relationship with Him can
be full of life – not something lifeless and stagnant
– because He Himself is alive! (Revelation 1:18)
24. Revelation 1:17-18 NIV
“When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead.
Then he placed his right hand on me and said: “Do
not be afraid. I am the First and the Last. I am the
Living One; I was dead, and now look, I am alive for
ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and
Hades.”
26. So when the Holy Spirit comes into a believer’s life,
He comes to teach, guide, and empower. He teaches
and guides us to the truth, saves us from error, and
gives us strength to hold on to that truth.
27. Jesus said that the Holy Spirit would guide His
people into all truth. He will help you read the
Bible, understand it, and interpret it correctly.
29. Galatians 5:24: “Those who belong to Christ Jesus
have crucified the flesh with its passions and
desires.”
In this verse, it’s clear that crucifying the flesh is
not something done to the believer, but by the
believer: “Those who belong to Christ have crucified
the flesh.”
30. The “flesh” that must be crucified is the sin
principle that exists in our fallen human nature. In
this world we live in fleshly bodies, and the body,
being weak (Mark 14:38), is the gateway to sin.
31. Mark 14:37-38 NIV
“Then he returned to his disciples and found them
sleeping. “Simon,” he said to Peter, “are you
asleep? Couldn’t you keep watch for one hour?
Watch and pray so that you will not fall into
temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is
weak.””
32. Our bodies, though not sinful in themselves,
naturally crave comfort and pleasure, and they too
often succumb to temptation, producing the works
of the flesh (Galatians 5:19–21).
33. Galatians 5:18-21 NIV
“But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under
the law. The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual
immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and
witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage,
selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy;
drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I
did before, that those who live like this will not
inherit the kingdom of God.”
34. Sin entrenches itself in the flesh, which becomes
dominated by iniquity of all kinds. It is the sinful
passions and wayward deeds of the flesh that
Christians must crucify.

hands on the sick, and they will recover.””
54. Luke 10:17-19 ESV
“The seventy-two returned with joy, saying, “Lord,
even the demons are subject to us in your name!”
And he said to them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning
from heaven. Behold, I have given you authority to
tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the
power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you.”
