2. Agenda
Creating Application Sets, Applications and Dimensions
Navigating in BPC for Excel
Loading Transaction Data into Applications
Working with Logic
Administration in BPC
4. Application Sets
An application set is a group of applications
An application set contains a set of dimensions that may be shared among its
applications
An application set is equivalent to a single MS Analysis services database
ApShell is the only delivered application set used as a starting point
No object within an appset are shared with other appsets
6. The Admin Console
You can gain useful insight regarding the ‘model’ being used here by viewing the
metadata from the tree on the left. Select an Application -> dimensions for example
7. Admin Console Navigation
If you select the application set on the left, the Action Pane will display application
set tasks
8. Dimension Types
Dimension Types define a specific role the dimension plays in a BPC Application. It
determines the default properties to be included in the dimension.
Required in every Application:
A – Account type dimension
C – Category type dimension
E – Entity type dimension
T – Time type dimension
Required in each Application Set:
R – Currency type dimension
Required for Intercompany Eliminations:
I – Intercompany
Additional dimension types:
D – Data Source type
S – Subtable type
Un – User defined type
10. Modifying an Application
Changing the application type would be rare and if data exists, not recommended.
Reassign SQL Index drops and re-builds the fact table index. Process Application
modifies the fact table, creates stored procedures, updates the OLAP database.
The system automatically detects situations when the indexing and processing
application is necessary.
To delete a dimension from an application, it is necessary to first delete all the
dependencies of that dimension from the application such as work status for
example. Duplicate dimension types are not allowed in one application unless the
type is User Defined.
11. Delivered Packages in ApShell
The packages that come with BPC are designed to be dynamic so that we don’t
need to modify the packages in order for them to work with our applications and
dimensions
12. Logic Types
In BPC you can use four different types of logic:
Worksheet Logic - local calculations that are worksheet-specific.
Dimension Member Logic - formulas that are dimension member-specific, across
applications, that are calculated on-the-fly. Some Dimension Member formulas are
delivered. You can add your own as well.
Script Logic - application-specific calculations that run as you specify, either
automatically after every data send, or scheduled and/or run manually.
Business Rules - parameter-based logic that is used for legal and management
consolidations.
13. Work Status End-to-End Process
Create Work States at the Application Set level
At the application set level, you need to determine:
The order in which the levels must occur
The various levels of Work Status
The lock settings of each level, for each interface
The person or people who control each level of Work Status
The interfaces include:
DM: Data Manager
JRN: Journals
MAN: Manual entries (i.e. data submission via BPC for Office and the Web)
COMM: Comments
DOC: Supporting documents
16. Journals
Journals are used to make any adjustments in the data keyed to the application.
Functionally this is used after all the data are keyed using Input Sheets to the
application. Usually Journals are used by managers; they will be checking the data
entered by the owners and make adjustments if needed.
Journals update the values in the Application, as do Input Schedules. However
Journals append, or modify data, whereas Input Schedules replace data. Values from
the Journal are saved as is without finding any delta value. The BPC Administrator
creates the standard templates per application for entering Journal Entries.
A Journal template is defined for each application that needs to enter adjustments.
The person assigned to the “JournalAdmin” task profile can create a Journal template
from Admin Console. The Journal Template is created using Journal wizard. The end
users use the Journal template created for making Journal entries.
17. BPC Web
BPC Web is a zero footprint client that allows you to:
Publish web pages and document attachments
Create and analyze live reports
18. Audit Setup
Audit is broken up into 2 categories:
1. Activity Audit: Captures “metadata” changes, such as
Add, Create, Change, and Delete
AppSets
Applications
Dimensions.
Activity audit is captured at the AppSet level.
2. Data Audit: Captures “transactional” data changes –
i.e. capture information on changes to records in an
Application. Data audit is captured at the Application
level.
