TECHNICAL ABILITIES AND SKILLS BY THEME/TASK
* The following is my pragmatic set of skills I am comfortable working with, applied and tested hands-on
either from previous employment or from completed learning modules.
Conceptual Understanding of Relational Database and DW Structure
• Understand the purpose of atomicity and of the 3rd
normal form required in structuring
OLTP/transactional/operational databases, for storage-efficiency and update-uniformity.
• Thorough understanding of de-normalization of dimensions required for the creation of
Kimball’s Enterprise Data Warehouse and data structure optimization for the purpose of
querying for building reports and analytical models (multidimensional and tabular).
Practical Database Management and Maintenance with Microsoft SQL Server 2014
• Adept at optimizing SQL query performance through writing efficient search arguments and
maintaining table indexes and statistics. Familiar with troubleshooting Windows and SQL
Server security credentials and proxies for automating SQL Agent Jobs for maintenance of
database backups, table indexes and statistics. Familiar with general setup of SQL Server
high-availability groups and Windows Server failover clusters, as well as aware of Storage
Area Network (SAN) configuration via iSCSI protocol for more effective data availability
and recovery and the physical abstraction of data services on servers from data storage on a
SAN.
• Comfortable with development of fully-automated, incrementally-loading Integration
Services (SSIS) or Extract-Transform-Load (ETL) solutions through the project and package
deployment models for populating the Data Warehouse from any format or platform of
transactional data.
• Comfortable with writing code in Visual Basic for Applications or C# to develop custom
script tasks and components in SSIS to parse and extract data from non-standard flat file
formats.
Data Analysis and Custom Report Building with Subscription Management
• SQL Server 2012 Analysis and Reporting Services:
o Comfortable with building multidimensional and tabular data models or cubes,
developing custom drill-down hierarchies, calculations, and aggregations.
o Adept at building and optimizing performance of dynamic, filter- or query-
parameterized, custom reports and dashboards with drill-through access from one
report to others from a variety of data sources with SQL Server Reporting Services.
Able to implement data-driven subscriptions/delivery of online reports.
• Microsoft Excel:
o Self-service and ad-hoc Business Intelligence data modelling and reporting with
various features and add-ins of MS Excel:
Comfortable with tabular data model design and construction with
PowerPivot. Able to build dynamic parameterized reports and dashboards
with Power View, Pivot Charts, and Pivot Tables.
o Comfortable with developing custom automations in Excel using macros and Visual
Basic for Application.
3. • Tableau Desktop Software: all of the above capabilities, data model modifications, and
dynamic custom report building that includes map and time-lapse animations.
