4. Domain Registration
• Domain registration is when you
purchase the rights for a domain for
a certain period of time.
• You purchase it from a Domain
Registrar.
• Generic top level domains are .com,
.net, .org, .co.
• There are now other top level
domains such as .Miami, .online,
.club
• Red Spot Interactive uses mainly
GoDaddy for this service.
5. Nameservers (DNS)
• Each domain registrar gives you the ability
to tell the world where your
NAMESERVERS will be located.
• GoDaddy gives you their local
NAMESERVERS.
• NAMESERVERS are the “Yellow Pages” for
your Registered Domain. Examples: Where
do I go for Portal.Redspotinteractive.com?
Where do I send emails to
RedSpotInteractive.com?
• The records inside the NAMESERVERS is
where the DNS records are located for the
domains. Each DNS record is stored on the
DNS Zone that is on the NAMESERVERS
for the domain.
• Red Spot Interactive uses GoDaddy or
DNSMadeEasy for Yellow Page Services.
6. Web Hosting
• The website is hosted at a physical location
(web server WPEngine) that has a public IP
(Address) that is published in the DNS
(Record) in the Yellow Pages of the domain
(NameServer) in which the domain has to
be registered by the client or Red Spot
Interactive (Domain Registrar).
• Red Spot Interactive hosts all sites at
WPEngine. All sites are developed on
WordPress.
• Backup requests are easy to handle when
the client has Wordpress because of tools
handled by WPEngine.
7. Email Hosting
• Emails are hosted at an Email Service
Provider. The mailboxes are configured. The
world knows to deliver emails to a Domain
based on the Email Records (MX Records)
that are on the Yellow Pages (Nameservers)
of the Domain.
• Email Hosting has to be planned.
• Email hosting Providers most commonly used
are Office 365 and G Suite from Google.
• New Clients will take about 1 to 2 hours (No
Existing Email)
• Email Migrations will take 1 to 2 hours plus
about 30 to 45 minutes per existing user.
• Archiving/Encryption/Security must be advised
for HIPAA clients.
• The key factor for a migration are transferring
emails (email history) and reconfiguring
devices with new email settings.
.
8. Common Issues
• Domain Transfer – This takes
authorization processes between
Registrars.
