Biography
Enrique Noguera was born in Diego Martin, Trinidad. At nine years old, he moved to Orange, NJ
where his mother still resides. In middle school, he struggled to retain his Caribbean identity
while transforming into an urban American.
Enrique is privileged to have college-educated parents who are avid readers. Much of his pride
of being a multicultural, black man in America is derived from the oral and written history his
father shared with him as a child.
Despite his love of great stories, Enrique struggled through most of his high school experience
and for a long time, did not appreciate the value of school. It was not until his junior year when
his history teacher wrongfully labeled the Black Panthers - A black version of the Ku Klux Klan -
that Enrique discovered his voice and passion for organizing and educating others. This
experience motivated him to graduate with a bachelor’s degree from Rutgers University in
Africana Studies and Urban Planning followed by a master’s in Education.
Professionally, Enrique has held positions with AmeriCorps and Rutgers University. Prior to
serving as the Assistant Director of EOF at Passaic County Community College, he was a School
Climate and Culture Specialist at Red Bank Middle School in Red Bank, NJ.

Enrique is the Site Dean for the New Jersey SEEDS, College Scholars and College Preparatory
Programs - both of which meet on Saturdays. Before working with NJ SEEDS, Enrique and his
wife, Nathaly, founded and directed Scholars Organizing Culturally Innovative Opportunities
(SOCIO) for five years. SOCIO is a Saturday civic engagement and college preparatory program
that trains Franklin High School students in Somerset, NJ to use Geographic Information
Systems (GIS) technology to build maps used to improve the local community and beyond.
Through Enrique Speaks, his “Opportunity Magnetism” and “STRAT Planning Seminars” which
promote social emotional safety, cultural awareness, civic engagement, and college access,
Enrique has improved the lives of individuals debilitated by miseducation. His mission is to
continue implementing people empowerment and community-derived revitalization initiatives
through his talks and seminars around the country.

Achieving the Mission
College Access & Civic Engagement Highlight:
Through SOCIO, Enrique directed a GIS mapping project with 30 high school students in the
wake of super storm Sandy. Over the course of a week, students identified open gas stations in
New Jersey, New York, and Connecticut and shared the information online. They also created a
Google Voice account to provide driving directions to desperate motorists. The White House,
the U.S. Department of Energy, FEMA, NBC, the New York Times, and the Huffington Post
acknowledged the mapping project and the effort of the students. Locally, the Franklin
Township Mayor and the Board of Education also recognized the students.
