2. MIESCOR – Short History and Background
Since its incorporation in 1973 as a solely-owned subsidiary of MERALCO,
MIESCOR has been behind every major engineering and construction
undertaking of its parent company.
MIESCOR and its wholly-owned subsidiaries (MIESCOR BUILDERS, INC.
and MIESCOR LOGISTICS, INC.) have a workforce of over 5,000 specialist
engineers, project management professionals, and skilled workers, guided
by the company’s values and the spirit of professionalism and engineering
excellence. MIESCOR is a growing force in both the domestic and
international markets particularly in power and energy – a soon to be
premier Filipino global brand.

built most of the Philippines’ power and energy businesses, as well as the

MERALCO
For more than a century, the Manila Electric Railroad
and Light Company (MERALCO) has been providing
electric light and power to Manila and its suburbs.
Being the largest distribution utility in the Philippines,
MERALCO serves a quarter of the estimated 100 million
Filipino households, generating 75% of Luzon’s and
55% of the country’s electricity sales.

3. MIESCOR undertakes engineering, procurement,
construction, testing and commissioning, operation
and maintenance of electric power transmission and
distribution facilities; transmission and distribution
lines, and substations; from low voltage to extra-high
voltage (500kV EHV)

4. MIESCOR is credited for having
completed over 330 km of 500 kV,
665 km of 230 kV, 734 km of 138 kV,
112 km of 115 kV, 315 km of 69 kV
transmission and distribution lines –
from design/engineering and
procurement to construction &
commissioning.
5. Power Generation
In the early days, MIESCOR handled the
engineering, construction and management,
testing, and maintenance of MERALCO’s 150+200
MW Gardner thermal power plants, 2x250 MW
Snyder thermal power plants, 300+350 MW
Malaya thermal power plants and 100 MW Tegen
thermal power plant. In 1980, MIESCOR was
contracted by Westinghouse International Projects
for the electro-mechanical works of the 620 MW
Philippine Nuclear Power Plant No. 1. It also
performed various engineering and construction
works for other solid and liquid fuel as well
combined cycle power plants. Projects include the
215 MW Bauang Diesel power plant; 108 MW
Subic Diesel power plant; 2x300 MW Masinloc
Coal-fired power plant; erection of HSRG and
turbine installation of the 4x250 MW Sta. Rita
combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power plant;
and turbine installation, electrical testing and
commissioning works of the 2x250 MW San
Lorenzo CCGT power plant.
6. MIESCOR has a long history in renewables (mini hydro,
hydro and geothermal) that dates back to the 70’s. Most
notable ones include the complete rehabilitation works of
the 75 MW Ambuklao Hydro-electric power plant;
construction and rehabilitation-upgrade of 112 MW
Pantabangan Hydro-electric power plant; project
development, engineering and construction management of
various mini-hydro projects in the Philippines; civil structural,
mechanical piping works for the geothermal steam gathering
facilities of Chevron at Tiwi and Makban and for PNOC-
Energy Development Corporation’s Bacon Manito and Leyte
geothermal production fields. Currently, MIESCOR is
engaged in wind, biomass, and solar energy projects.
Renewable Energy
7. Oil & Gas and Industrial Plants
MIESCOR provided design development, detailed engineering, and construction supervision
services for DuPont Singapore Adipic Acid Project; detailed engineering and project
management for the Modernization of Joint Terminal Facility (Shell, Caltex, and FPIC); detailed
engineering for the National Starch and Chemical Co., Thailand; design of building facilities for
the Star Petroleum Refinery Co. Ltd.; construction supervision for the MK-ABS/SAN Polymer
Plant; detailed engineering for the USS Casthouse Project; detailed engineering and
construction supervision for the Eveready China Labelling by Packaging Facility; various
maintenance and turnaround projects for the copper smelting facility of Philippine Associated
Smelting and Refining Corporation (PASAR).
8. MIESCOR supports the continuing 24/7 connectivity
and modernization programs of Philippine Long
Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT) (a related company
and the Philippines’ largest telecommunication
company) and Smart Communications Inc. It
undertakes engineering and installation of fiber
optics and network lines, exchange centers, outside
plant facilities, cell sites and relay stations; structural
analysis and detailed engineering of towers and their
foundations for the ISLACOM antenna towers;
design services for MERALCO and PLDT self-
supporting communication towers; installation of
MSI, FRM, and DSL for various projects for PLDT; and
construction of international broadcasting facilities
for Voice of America at Wallace Air Station.
TelecommunicationsRail Transport
MIESCOR has participated in light rail projects,
focusing on electrical and mechanical aspects of light
rail projects. These include maintenance of the MRT 3
Overhead Catenary System (OCS); MRT 3 power
supply and distribution; LRT 1 station facilities such as
elevators, escalators, air conditioning; LRT 1
rehabilitation of old switch gears; MPIC Study on
integration of LRT 1 and MRT 3. It continues to
participate in various LRT and MRT expansion and
modernization projects of the Philippines’
Department of Transportation and Communications.
9. As a utility construction arm, MIESCOR’s contribution
in waterworks includes the construction and
rehabilitation of major pumping stations, expansion
and upgrading of water distribution networks, pipe
laying of water mains for Maynilad Water Services,
Inc. MIESCOR also provided detailed engineering for
the Malitubog-Maridagao Irrigation; construction for
the Angat Water Supply Optimization, Vigan Water
Supply System, Tañong Watermains Extension, and
Ilocos Norte Water District projects.
Waterworks
10. Operations and Maintenance
MIESCOR provides back-end support to
MERALCO, its subsidiaries and affiliates as well
as to independent power producers. It
provides a wide range of operation and
management services ranging from asset
optimization; network information
management; enterprise asset management;
testing transmission line and substation
maintenance; facilities management; energy
audit; plant maintenance; plant performance
improvement; turnarounds; outages and
shutdowns; to warehousing and inventory
management services. Other significant O & M
projects are: Operation and Maintenance of
MERALCO’s distribution utilities for the North,
South and Central Sectors; Facilities
management of MERALCO’s Ortigas
compound; Maintenance of First Gas 35 km
Sta. Rita-Calaca 230 kV transmission line, and
First Holdings’ 31 km Quezon Power 230 kV
transmission line.
