NEXT WEBINAR
JULY 27th
Hi, I’m David Jackson and I am with Peter Obregon (Say Hi Peter).
Thank you very much for joining us today. As everyone is already aware, the lighting industry is going through, yet another categorical shift. From Fluorescent to LEDs, and now lighting controls. However, Enlighted is way more than controls, which we will explain. And we are very excited to hopefully get an opportunity to work with everyone on the phone and web viewers.
Having said this, we have quite the full agenda of topics to cover. So lets get started.
Here is our Agenda for today. It is quite the aggressive agenda. If there are any questions, we hope to leave sufficient time at the end to address as many as possible.
With so much change so fast, and so many companies piling into the lighting space with a myriad of offerings, customers are feeling rightfully overwhelmed. Companies that can cut through the noise with solutions that are easy to understand and implement, and with clearly demonstrated benefits and paybacks, seem to be in high demand
The digitization of lighting technologies is expanding far beyond the luminaire into the realm of big data. IoT sensors in light fixtures can collect light, heat, motion data, and more. This data enables task tuning profiles for individuals and groups in a building as well as adjusting color
Intelligent sensors in the lighting fixture make large-scale data collection possible. This data can be used both as an input into lighting design choices, and also to create and manage real-time personalized lighting profiles for building occupants — in spaces as small as a few feet.
This data-driven dimension to lighting projects and operation can radically improve both energy efficiency and quality of light for building occupants.
Sensors can make smart decisions on lighting, HVAC, space utilization, asset management, micro-personalization and more. These unique capabilities are what make a building brilliant
So here we are again. At the precipice of another transformation, but this time it’s even bigger, broader, and deeper. Lighting is becoming the technological nexus for smart, connected buildings. Lights are everywhere that people are, and so light fixtures have become the network of nodes that facilitate the collection and delivery of big data from buildings
Lighting design will soon be a fully networked, data-driven practice and new light fixtures can already be manufactured IoT-Ready. This means fixtures come with a plug and play slot for an intelligent sensor built directly into the fixture, out of the box.
There is so much buzz about the Internet of Things, it’s easy to forget that for many people, the topic is brand new.
IoT is about connecting “things” to the Internet. One simple example is household appliances. Before the Internet of Things, a coffeepot was just a coffeepot. It was plugged into the wall for electricity, and that was that.
Now, with an IoT-enabled coffeepot, your coffeepot can collect and store data to the Internet, and use that data, and data from other coffeepots, to learn how to make better coffee over time.
Data that a “smart” coffeepot might gather could include water volume and temperature, humidity of the coffee itself, caffeine levels, and frequency and timing of coffee consumption.
We might have an interesting debate about how revolutionary a smart coffee maker truly is, but this example shows how the technology works.
The Internet of Things is about connecting our various devices to the world around them, and also to the Internet.
What Does IoT Mean for Buildings?
Buildings that are part of the Internet of Things typically have hundreds or thousands of advanced sensors installed in them. These sensors gather data on the building environment (light, heat, occupancy, motion, security, etc) and store it in a central data repository.
The data in this repository generates insights for building managers, and is used by software to optimize the building environment for efficiency and better occupant experiences.
Now that we have covered the basics, you may ask, Who is Enlighted?
Designed to change everything, Enlighted provides the world’s most advanced digital sensor and analytics platform for smarter buildings to Fortune 500 companies around the globe.
Enlighted was founded in 2009 and has received venture funding from top tier investors.
Now that I have briefly explained who Enlighted is, why would you want to Partner with Enlighted?
When evaluating controls for your luminaire, OEMs typically have to make 1 of 3 decisions. Build? Buy? Or Partner.
If you Build, you will need to invest in your own hiring, training, and develop your controls roadmap.
If you Buy, you will need to identify and purchase IP in the controls space.
If you want to Partner, let us supply you with the technology to make you successful.
We'd like to partner with all OEM's regardless of size, product segment or application specialty. Let us help you navigate the confusing IOT and controls space.
You can choose the level of engagement: whether you're new at this and just want to integrate the bare minimum or want to get fully engaged, the opportunity is there for your business to grow.
We are catering to a very broad set of verticals.
Each vertical has their own interest in utilizing the benefits of Enlighted.
Banking, retail, technology, all have unique needs beyond of just lighting control.
For our retail customers, whom are all about data, beyond just controlling their lights, Enlighted gives space owners the ability to see how efficient each section of their store.
Once Enlighted is successful for one particular corporate customer in one location, they typically take us to their other buildings around the country.
Enlighted is a small company and we are very honored that our customers value what we can offer them. This partnership has made our OEMs successful, Enlighted successful, and most importantly, our customers successful in creating intelligent work and retail spaces.
I wanted to quickly show a competition slide that was done by one of our large OEMs. They did an analysis of all of the players in the market and you can see how we all stack up against each other.
You can see there is a large void within the “Advanced Lighting Controls” and “Cloud Based Services”.
In terms of which Luminaire OEMs we are currently working with, this is a visual representation of forward thinking OEMs in the market.
These Luminaire OEMs see where the industry is going and have partnered with us. And these OEMs are actively promoting their connected lighting solutions.
If you are working with any of these OEMs, please ask them about their offering in the connected lighting space.
The Enlighted System is the simplest and most advanced way of managing a building’s physical environment.
Together, Enlighted Smart Sensors, Enlighted Room Control, the Enlighted Gateway, and the Energy Manager automate, analyze, control, and report environmental data to drive efficiency.
Here is an overview of our full system. No really, this is it.
At the luminaire level, there are 3 components that go into the light fixture. And only 1 if you have a relationship with Philips and use their XSR Driver.
At the top, there is the sensor, cable, and control unit that goes into the luminaire.
At the building site, there are typically 4 components that would go into the building. We have the Wall Switch, Gateway, PoE switch and Energy Manager.
Obviously, as the scale of the building or floor grows, the number of these items will grow as well.
But this is it, this is our entire system.
Depending on the application, Enlighted has 1 of 5 different types of sensors.
We have the Tile Mount sensor, Two-Wire Compact Sensor, Two Wire Fixture Mount Sensor, High Bay Sensor, and IP-65 Ruggedized outdoor sensor.
All of these sensors have the same functionality. So for a Luminaire OEM, the decision is really about form factor of the luminaire and/or their relationship with Philips.
Now let’s take a look a the sensor itself. This is where the Enlighted story begins.
This, essentially, is a small computer that has its own micro processor and memory. This is the brain that is being inserted into the luminaire.
This brain sees and records digital motion, light levels around that luminaire with a photocell, and temperature.
We are also integrating Bluetooth into the sensor, which can work with Apps that the customer can develop.
Each Enlighted Sensor Unit communicates people-centric data - occupancy, motion, daylight level and temperature - wirelessly through a gateway to a central Energy Manager.
Enlighted’s occupancy savings are maximized by the granular control made possible by our sensor-per-fixture architecture. Lights brighten as occupants enter a space and dim soon after they exit.
For daylight harvesting, the Enlighted Sensor Unit also incorporates a light sensor. It measures the natural light entering the space in real time and dims down lamp wattage accordingly, adding more to total savings.
When the luminaire is installed, and the Energy Manager is powered up, this is an example of the data that the luminaire is generating with our sensor.
There are literally hundreds of data points. The customer can decide if they want to take full advantage of this data or rely on the ‘set it and forget it’ daily, weekly, monthly, yearly light levels.
After clicking on another tab, you are able to drill down to individual luminaires with our sensors in them.
For example, after clicking on one of the sensors, you are able to see the percentage of light being on, how long ago the space was occupied, as well as temperature.
With a sensor per fixture, this allows for granular data being collected underneath the fixture. Granular data allows for limitless applications for that space.
The more sensors in the building the greater the ability to “see” how that space is being utilized.
There are three levels of engagement when working with Enlighted.
Customer/Distributor supplied parts
Buy as Needed
And Stocking Inventory
Each of these options have pros and cons for the Luminaire OEM. Let’s walk through these options…
There are a few steps a Luminaire OEM must go through. From Legal agreements to forecasts.
Step one involves legal documentation.
Step two, send them to a particular email address.
Step three, provide clear part numbers, quantities etc. in the Purchase Order.
Lead time is variable and depends on notification, and when the PO is placed before being shipped.
In terms of pricing, our Enlighted products are at par with products on the market place that are single function sensors.
On small orders of less than 1000, typical lead time is 7-10 day when we have the items in stock.
Of course, many documents are available online.
