Use flashcards duringpresentationtomapthe course of the 10 minutespresentation.
Introduction&slide 1. – 1 min.
Helloandwelcome totoday’ssession, myname’sEmmaandI will be takingyouon a discoverytripof
learning. Justbefore we start, please canyouholdthese forme (handout peripherals) –
Slide 2. - 3.5 mins
Make yourself comfortable,Iamgoingto show youa short video.(Startyoutube clip)
Move to slide 3. – 1 min
Do yourememberwhatyoujustsaw onthe video?ASKAUDIENCE. –
Well actually, there isagoodchance that youwill onlyremember50% of whatyou justsaw after two
weeks.
Move to slide 4. – 3.5 mins
As we can see fromEdgar Dale’scone of learning.
So…..if I askyou to justreadthisslide,withinthe nexttwoweeksyouwill onlyremember10% of what
youhave read.
Andwhat aboutif I askedyouabout seeingwords –how muchdo youthinkyoucouldrememberafter
twoweeks?– 30%
Or sayingwords………….. – 70%
Now for example,if Iwasto speakto youabout the cone on screenandgo on all day aboutit which
wouldbe a bitboring for you(sayinga bitboringfor youquite fast, thensoundingthe crazytrumpet
noise) youwill still remember20%of whatI have saiddue to the interruption of noise.Andone dayyou
mightjusthear a similarnoise somewhere downthe road, where youwouldhearacrazy trumpetnoise
againI don’tknowbut youwill thinkof the learningcone andthistrainingsession.
A personal favouritemethodof learningisto‘DO’.If you rememberatthe beginningof thissessionI
askedyouto holda peripheral, aperipheralisatool usedby trainersand facilitatorsto keeplearners
engaged,unlockingtheirfull learningcapacityandhopefully you’relearningcapacity.
The resultof this trainingisthatby puttingall of these elementstogether,we get90% of the learning
material intwoweeksasopposedtoeachindividual elementonitsown.
Closingstatement –1 min.
As youare aware,new Pearsonemployeesundertake atwoweekinductionprogramme.Thisinduction
fitsperfectlywithinthe cone of learning, asitbringsall the elementsof the learningprocesstogetherto
enable the newemployeestoretainandimplement90% of all theyhave learntouton the customer
Service centre andintotheirnewteams.
As a directresultof efficienttraining, thisallowsnew employeeshitthe groundrunningandtobe
successful inpassingtheirprobation.Thisisnotonlygreatesteemfornew employeesbutforPearson
VUE customerservice levels.
I hope youhave learnta great deal fromtoday’ssession.Learnall we can, while we can.Seize the day!!
