A first aid kit contains essential items for treating wounds and common ailments. As a minimum, it should include cotton, disinfectant, a tourniquet, plaster strips, anti-allergy medicine, anti-fever medicine, anti-cough/cold medicine, anti-diarrhea medicine, and items for eye protection and washing. When assembling a first aid kit, use only sterilized medical supplies and check the quality and source of items, especially if purchasing cheaply from convenience stores. It is important to be prepared to treat minor injuries and illnesses when professional medical help may not be immediately available.
