2. IES INTERNSHIPSThe first step to finding talent.
Employers worldwide know that internships are an excellent way of identifying and
developing talent. Securing interns can also be a time-consuming, painstaking, and
costly process that, without a significant commitment, can yield marginal results.
IES Internships offers employers a comprehensive program that connects intelligent,
talented, and motivated students with your organization’s internship opportunities—
without any cost to your company.
It’s academic—with real-world results.
IES Internships is a unit of IES Abroad, one of the leading study abroad providers
in the world. Over the past 40 years, our academic programs have included part-time
internships—placing thousands of students in internships in more than 35 cities
worldwide.
Today, IES Internships builds on this experience by offering full-time summer
internships in Chicago and in eight international cities.
IES Internships, together with IES Abroad, has cultivated deep relationships with 225
leading public and private U.S. colleges and universities whose students attend our
programs. We develop the academic programs that students undertake as part of
their study abroad and internship experience. IES Internships will connect you with
this exceptional, diverse pool of students from our distinguished partner schools.
We know the students. We know the
schools. We know how to find the right
student for your internship opportunity.
What We Offer Students
IES Internships has developed a seamless, responsive program to help employers
promote their internship opportunities without the challenge of finding the right
students. By partnering with us, employers have the ability to recruit students from more
top-tier schools than ever before without the cost and time of on-campus recruiting.
You provide the internship. We do the work.
Academic Leadership: Connecting You with Top Talent
IES Internships is a unit of IES Abroad, an internationally respected, not-for-profit,
academic study abroad organization. Founded in 1950 with one program, IES Abroad
now offers more than 115 programs in 35+ cities worldwide.
IES Abroad and IES Internships students come from our national consortium of 225
top-tier U.S. colleges and universities who support our mission, direction, academic
program development (including internships), and program review process.
Our long-time relationships with the country’s finest schools give us unique access to
students from academically challenging environments.
Academic Leadership
Our academic leadership relies on the development of outstanding programming—
by educational and study abroad staff with years of professional experience. The IES
Abroad Academic Department works closely with the academic consortium to develop
high-quality programming and maintain program and curriculum excellence—all while
strengthening relationships with world-class university partners and faculty.
Trusted Partner
Through specific program evaluation, the academic consortium schools work with
IES Abroad to continually measure and refine academic programming so it remains
challenging, innovative, and relevant to the changing needs of today’s students.
This governance process reaffirms the academic consortium’s trust and respect for IES
Abroad’s offerings.
Academic Relationship Builder
IES Abroad holds an Annual Conference for our members to discuss study abroad and
internships topics, including academic standards and assessment, faculty and program
development, and maximizing the academic, personal, and professional benefits of study
abroad. This Conference provides direct access to key decision makers and allows IES
Abroad to continue to build productive relationships with our consortium partners.
Internships with Academic Credit
Every IES intern is required to participate in a seminar for academic credit. This seminar
continues throughout the internship, providing students with an introduction to the local
economic environment, preparation for entering the work world, skills for communicating
across cultures and working on diverse teams, and strategies for developing leadership
abilities. In addition, interns communicate regularly with IES Internship Coordinators to
ensure that they have the support they need to successfully accomplish the projects you
set out for them. As the intern’s supervisor, you will contribute to the student’s professional
development and have input into their grade.
IES Internships offers students:
• Pre-screened internships that help ensure a
successful experience.
• On-going communication with employers to
provide support and foster successful outcomes.
• Intern housing and commuting information.
• Required 1- or 6-credit seminar where our interns
learn together about:
o The wide variety of internship experiences each
student is undertaking
o Local business environment
o Ethics
o Team building
o Improving communication
o Strengthening work aptitude and attitude
o Navigating issues, challenges, and opportunities
to help them succeed on the job
