Results
S Chelsea is a town of contrast, which plays a role in the prevalence of obesity(24%)
despite the fact of having a high SES
S 1% of the land of the town is designated for parks and there being only 2 playgrounds for
the whole town.
S There were only two (2) stops for public transit with no coverings or bench provided.
S 56% of the streets had no posted speed limit, 59% did not contain crosswalks and only
16% percent of roads were marked.
Discussion and Recommendations
S The local environment plays a role in the health of the community and the lack of
public recreational spaces can directly to the development of obesity.
S Due to the high rate of childhood obesity a community health improvement plan
would be best to implement immediately to effectively strategize how to reduce the
adiposity of the youth in Chelsea.
S Finally schools need to ensure that there are healthy foods for lunch as well as
allotting 60 minutes for physical activity.
