There are several trail markers all snowboarders
must familiarize themselves with before hitting the
mountain. Some of these markers are intended to
prevent injury, either for the boarder or others on
the mountain. A sign marked with foot prints, for
example, means that a pedestrian path is nearby
and that boarders should be wary of individuals
coming onto the trail.
3. Trail Markers
Similarly, black-and-yellow warning signs come in all
shapes and sizes to warn boarders of crevasses and
other dangers in the area.
Trail markers are also used to distinguish challenging
trails from easier runs. Green circles are considered
the easiest trails on a mountain, while blue squares
and black diamonds represent runs better suited to
intermediate and advanced snowboarders,
respectively. The double black diamond trail marker is
used for trails that should only be attempted by
advanced riders. It should be noted that these trail
markers, while used globally, refer to local conditions.
For example, a green circle on one mountain may be
termed a blue square on another, and vice versa.
