To teach and to learn a language is by far a lot more than learning 3,000 words. It is to understand and control the morphology of words, particularly compounds; and it is also to understand and dominate the syntax of the language; it is this third element that is known as communicational power or competence within this language. Each learner is special and original and requires a special and original way of learning. This is a lot more complicated than it sounds because it cannot be taught in a class like 2+2=4. It has to be learned from the practice of communication and that can only be achieved if the communicational tasks are real or at least under the pressure and urgency of a situation that makes communicating the only way out.
