Participating in Activities
A LOOK AT HOW CERTAIN IMPAIRMENTS EFFECT TIME SPENT ON
PARTICULAR ACTIVITIES
2. We collected data on individuals with impairments and looked at
their time spent in various activities.
We looked at 7 Impairment types:
• None = Individuals with no impairments.
• Hearing = Individuals with hearing impairments.
• Walking = Individuals with movement impairments.
• Remember = Individuals who have difficulty concentrating, remembering, or making
decisions.
• Dress/Bath = Individuals who have difficulty bathing and/or dressing.
• Errands: Individuals who have difficulty doing errands due to impairments.
3. We asked participants how many times they visited a particular
location in the past 7 days.
The locations we asked them about were:
• Grocery: Grocery stores.
• Healthcare: Doctors or other healthcare providers.
• Pharmacies: Drugstores or Pharmacies.
• Restaurants: Restaurants.
• Large Box Stores: Large box stores such as Walmart or Costco.
• Parks: Public parks or recreation areas.
• Exercise: Exercise facilities.
• Shopping Malls: Shopping Malls.
4. We also asked participants how many times they participated in a
particular activity in the past 7 days.
Activities we asked about are:
• Active Recreation: Activities such as exercise or sports.
• Socializing: Time spent socializing outside the home.
• Religious Activities: Time spent at church services or other religious activities.
• Community activities: Time spent voting or at community meetings.
• Entertainment: Time spent at the movies or sporting events.
We also asked about Major Activities such as:
Employment, School / Education, & Volunteering

10. Overall Idea
• As you can see from our data it is quite clear the people with different
impairments or no impairments spend their time differently.
• We would like to use this data to figure out exactly why that is.
