3. IS APPLE WORKING ON A CAR?
Reports that Apple is working on an electric car or at least a vehicle project,
follows the recruitment of car manufacturers’ electric system teams.
More than 18 people have been reportedly hired with specialisms in car safety,
battery and hybrid technology, and car software systems. The new team were
previously employees at automotive competitors, including Tesla Motors.
The rumour mill has gone into frenzy after mystery cars registered to Apple were
spotted in the US with cameras fitted to the roof.
Potential products range from a Google Street-View style map to a self-driving
car or electric car.
4. ELECTRIC CAR COMPETITION
Both Tesla Motors and General Motors are planning on releasing electric cars in
2017. The cars will cost less than $40,000 (£26,000) and will be able to travel
more than 200 miles on a single charge.
While automakers typically spend 5 to 7 years developing a car, Apple is
allegedly optimistic a 2020 timeframe is achievable.
