In Ireland over 13 Ambulance Control Centres
– Following reconfiguration in 2015 now only 2 Centers exist
– Using Digital Technology operating one system over
– Technology & Estate enablers include :
New modern buildings with space capacity & resilience
- Tetra (Greek origin) Communications, National Coverage
- Status messaging, Voice, AVLS.
– Avaya Telephony system, presents Emg calls to most
rested ECT
– Modern Computer Aided Dispatch which has multiple
interfaces
– Integrated Command & Communications System (ICCS)
– National AVLS on all vehicles

Patient Care begins immediately at the time the
emergency call is received,
Clinical Triage and pre arrival instructions
provided through AMPDS
Geo-Directory location database with Eir (post)
Codes embedded to provide reverse look up
information
Direct plotting of Patient address details on
Ordinance Survey mapping
Automatic Mobile Location (AML) data intake
has commenced from certain types of mobile
phones
6. HSE NATIONAL AMBULANCE SERVICE
Available resources, CFR’s, EFR’s,
Emergency Ambulances, RRV’s, Ambulance
Manager, HEMS, Coast Guard.
Intermediate Care (ICV)
Installation of Mobile Data Terminals (MDT)
in Ambulance Vehicles with Sat-Navigation
capability to plot map details to the location
Of the Emergency.
Introduction of electronic Patient Care
Record (ePCR) for more accurate and
auditable recording of patients clinical
details and treatments.
7. HSE NATIONAL AMBULANCE SERVICE
Automatic text alerting system for
Community First Responders and
Emergency First responders for ECHO and
DELTA calls
Responders can populate CAD data regarding
Mobile and scene arrival times.
8. HSE NATIONAL AMBULANCE SERVICE
Interhospital transfers, HEMS and transport
for cardiac emergencies in rural areas are
provided by NAS Paramedic / Advance
Paramedic Staff utilising Defence Forces
Helicopters.
NAS also use Helicopters of the Irish Coast
Guard for patients with emergencies who reside
on Islands off the West Coast of Ireland.
9. HSE NATIONAL AMBULANCE SERVICE
Introduction of Ambulance Arrival Screens
installed in Hospital Emergency Departments
showing inbound Emergencies with ASHICE
Time synchronisation of patient handover in
E.D’s between NAS staff and Nursing staff.
Enabling Emergency Vehicles to become Wi-Fi
hubs by installing appropriate communications
equipment

By Introducing these new technology changes
NAS is :
Identify address location of Emergency rapidly,
Triage Clinical acuity with CPR instructions
Identify the nearest available resource from a
National pool of resources through AVLS
Alert responding staff via, Automated Text
messaging, Tetra Voice, MDT,
Receive status data messages back from
responding resources.
Reducing response times.
